Between the Trees Music Festival

Between the Trees is a community music festival held in a village called Rudry, close to Cardiff and Caerphilly in the beautiful South Wales countryside and showcases some of the UK and Ireland’s finest contemporary Folk, Americana and Acoustic-roots artists.

Between the Trees is staged over two days and offers local food, real ales and ciders as well as great music. I spent one of the most enjoyable few hours for a long time drawing this picture of half the field which nestles 'between the trees' behind the local community hall. Along with hundreds of others we were camping. The atmosphere was fantastic with children playing, doing nature walks and listening to story tellers in the woods, not to mention listening to all the great music from Friday afternoon through to late Saturday night.

Sat where I was, just behind the hall, looking down a slope onto the field I could listen to the music from two stages, one in the big top that can be seen in the drawing and one in a smaller tent just to the right of this picture. The organisers managed to seamlessly go from one stage to the next so that as one act finished the next act would begin on the other stage. With plentiful real ale served form the bar in the hall and fantastic local food, what more could an Urban Sketcher ask for!

All the music was good but the stand out acts for me were Climbing Trees, Bella Collins and Gareth Evans, Flight Brigade and Marc O'Reilly. 

I would have done more sketching but I was too busy enjoying myself.
