From Breitbart Shiva Ayyadurai, the Man Who Invented Email, Seeks to Unseat Senator Elizabeth Warren in 2018
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Shiva Ayyadurai, the man who is credited with inventing email among several other life-improving creations such as EchoMail, Systems Health, and CytoSolve, has announced that he is challenging Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for her seat in the 2018 elections.
“I consider myself an embodiment of the American dream: an all-American Indian,” Ayyadurai told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview shortly after he launched his campaign.
He went on to say, “Massachusetts ignited the American Revolution. Now, we need to fight for the American dream. That victory will only be possible if we dialogue and educate each other to solve problems, together, as Americans.”
Ayyadurai landed in America on his 7th birthday in 1970. At age 14, while working as a Research Fellow at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark, NJ, he created the first electronic system that replicated the old- fashioned paper-based interoffice mail system (inbox, outbox, folders, address book, attachments, etc.), which he named “email.”
Ayyadurai went on to receive the first U.S. Copyright for his invention on August 30, 1982, recognizing him as the inventor of email. At the time, copyright was the only way to protect software inventions. His work and documents are displayed in the Smithsonian.
He recalled the discrimination he and his family suffered under India’s caste system, a harrowing experience he says has shaped him into who he is today.
“Those experiences inspired me to be fighter for those who suffered injustices. It also inspired me to use science and engineering to invent solutions that solved real problems,” Ayyadurai said.
He criticized Warren for her divisive and irrational approach, which he said, “…is leading us nowhere. My whole life has been about fighting for the truth while creating tangible solutions to real problems across the fields of communication, health, education, governance and commerce.”
“Engineering is about finding solutions with a commitment to ongoing refinement. That’s what engineering training teaches you.” Ayyadurai said. He suggested that politicians like Warren have “no idea that governance is about solving complex systems problems. Irrational outbursts create drama and only serve to generate advertising dollars for the mainstream media (MSM). People are tired of this partisan nonsense and elitism.”
Ayyadurai said his decision to run for Senate was about timing.
He had never registered to vote until last year, when he voted for Trump. “I saw Trump as a necessary force to disrupt a broken system that was no longer serving the American people,” he told Breitbart News. “I’ve always had a deep distaste, since 1984, for both Republicans and Democrats.” He said he’d initially shown some interest in the Democratic Party, but he broke from them that year, after Jesse Jackson, like Bernie Sanders, sold out the populist movement. “Trump never sold out his movement,” he said.
“After 1984, I broke with Republicans and Democrats.” He said he figured out as a teenager that “both these Establishment parties were two heads of the same snake — tweedle dee and tweedle dum.” Ayyadurai’s study of history has shown that only people’s movements create change.
He saw Trump’s victory as ushering in real change and said Trump’s victory was “bound to occur…. You can’t get away with fooling people over and over again. The truth is what intellectual and Hollywood Elites are upset at … [It] is not Trump, but that they lost control over everyday people, who they discounted as inferior — a lower caste.”
Ayyadurai said he wants to “be of service to everyday people who are getting bamboozled and lied to by the same people who claim to be their saviors. My journey to the American dream provides me a unique perspective on seeing through all the propaganda, so we can find solutions, based on fact not opinions, for such issues as immigration, education and innovation. ”
Ayyadurai opened a campaign office on Concord Avenue in Cambridge just over a week ago:
Just opened SHIVA 4 SENATE Office in Cambridge MA. Right on Concord Avenue!

Veterans Group Blasts 'Selfish' Elizabeth Warren for Putting Illegal Aliens First - Breitbart
He launched his campaign on the auspicious Hindu holiday known as “ShivaRatri,” which signifies the struggle the Hindu God Shiva underwent so light or truth (good) could overcome darkness and ignorance (evil).
Today, ShivaRatri, when Light overcame Darkness, we launched my campaign for US SENATE against @SenWarren. Defend the American Dream!
Ayyadurai holds four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), including a Ph.D. in biological engineering. As an undergraduate at MIT, Shiva started a student newspaper called The Student that exposed both major political parties. He was also an activist who fought “for making sure more women, more poor whites, and minorities could come to MIT.” He fought for the rights of food-service workers to get better working conditions and a fair wage.
While he was there, he led one of the biggest protests against MIT investments in apartheid South Africa. What distinguished his leadership, unlike other campus divestment movements, was his efforts to connect the injustice of the South African worker 10,000 miles away with the struggles of the local MIT food service workers, who were being paid very low wages, despite the massive endowment the school receives.
“My politics were always about connecting the realities here at home,” he said. “I burned the flag of South Africa right on the steps of the MIT Student Center to send a message. The funny thing was the cops didn’t stop me. They let me douse it in gasoline and burn it, right in front of them.” He blasted the “hypocrisy of those who attempted to disconnect the struggles of workers right at home at MIT with those in South Africa.”
Ayyadurai said:
These same people would not talk about the poor whites and the poor blacks in this country. It was like these elite hippies who were MIT students [found it] easier to talk about things 10,000 miles away. Many of these students were afraid to go to poor neighborhoods right in Boston. It’s easy for them to take pictures of themselves doing “missionary” work 10,000 miles away to make themselves feel better.
But, he said, they wouldn’t “get their hands dirty by going to neighborhoods like Dorchester and Roxbury, two predominantly black communities right in Massachusetts.”
“The truth is that the Democratic Party is the party of codependency, based on making everyday people dependent on them for their ‘kindness and goodwill.'” He added, “they just have better PR and use duplicity to keep the masses in chains by making them believe that the way out of this is through them.”
Ayyadurai cited the welfare state as an example of the Democratic Party’s attempts to keep people “in bondage so they don’t rise up on their own two feet. It’s no different than the old plantation model.”
Ayyadurai concluded by stating:
The Founding Fathers created a revolutionary nation in which innovation, education, creativity, and meritocracy flourished. Those core values drew my family to immigrate to the United States, and I’ll always be grateful. Now I’m committed to preserving, protecting, and expanding those opportunities for the citizens of Massachusetts and for all Americans. That’s the new American Revolution, and I hope others will join me in this fight.

Republican Senate Candidate Calls Out Elizabeth Warren for Refusing DNA Ancestry Test
by KATHERINE RODRIGUEZ
A Republican candidate who is running against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for the Senate is challenging Warren’s unfounded claim that she is of Native American ancestry.
GOP U.S. Senate candidate V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai sent Warren a fully paid DNA test kit from 23&Me through Amazon last week to see if she is willing to back up her claims of Native American heritage.

I'm deeply saddened @SenWarren refused my thoughtful (gift-wrapped) Birthday Gift: the 23&me DNA Test Kit. Most unfortunate! #FakeIndian
Ayyadurai has made it a point in his campaign to challenge Warren’s claims of Native American ancestry, which no documentation has been able to prove.
Instead, Warren pointed to a “family newsletter” from 2006 stating that her 3rd great-grandmother was a Cherokee Indian as proof of her heritage uncovered by an amateur genealogist.
Warren’s campaign also claimed that the Massachusetts senator is Native American because her cousin Candy Rowsey edited a cookbook called Pow Wow Chow. A Boston talk radio show host found in 2012 that Warren plagiarized two recipes that she submitted to the cookbook.
Ayyadurai, meanwhile, is using the lack of documented evidence of Warren’s heritage to his advantage. He coined the campaign slogan, “Only a real Indian can defeat the fake Indian” in a direct attack on Warren’s unfounded claims.
ONLY a REAL INDIAN can defeat THE FAKE INDIAN. Kindly donate $5, $25 or $100 at https://goo.gl/BhDegW to support #SHIVA4SENATE.

(Better a day late than never...) Five little-known Fourth of July facts that will leave you shocked
Independence Day is finally here. And while most people know that we are celebrating the signing of the declaration of independence and American freedom from Britain, there’s still a lot many people don’t know about the American holiday.
So while you’re heading to barbecues and fireworks shows to celebrate our nation’s independence, you can impress with these five little-known facts about the famous holiday.
1. Only two people actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, John Hancock and Charles Thomson, secretary of Congress. Most of the other signers did so on August 2nd.
2. There were disagreements about when to actually celebrate our nation’s independence. John Adams advocated for a celebration on July 2nd, which was the day Congress actually voted for independence.
John Adams
3. Three U.S. presidents died on the Fourth of July. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe. Ironically, Adams and Jefferson both died on the holiday in 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the independent United States.
Thomas Jefferson
4. In 1778, George Washington chose to celebrate the holiday with his soldiers by ordering a double ration of rum.
George Washington
5. Break out the grill, you won’t be the only one! Americans eat around 155 million hot dogs on the fourth every single year. We also spend $92 million on chips, $167.5 million on watermelon, and $341.4 million on beer.

Report: “Obamaphone” Program Has Potentially Million or more of Ineligible Users
By Martin Lioll
Even though it wasn’t started under Barack Obama, the Lifeline Program — colloquially known as the “Obamaphone” — became a symbol of the expanding entitlement state under the previous administration.
Now, a report from the Government Accountability Office reveals largesse and fraud under the Lifeline Program is even worse than its conservative critics imagined.
According to the Washington Times, the report — conducted at the behest of Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat desperately trying to establish moderate credentials before her re-election bid next year — revealed over one-third of those enrolled in the program likely aren’t qualified.
“Some 10.6 million people have an Obamaphone, but 36 percent of them may not qualify, investigators said after sampling the population and finding a huge chunk of people couldn’t prove they were eligible,” the Times reported.
“More than 5,500 people were found to be enrolled for two phones, while the program was paying for nearly 6,400 phones for persons the government has listed as having died.”
That’s hardly surprising, considering the dearly departed have always been a key liberal demographic. However, the living proved just as able to get around the system as the inert and embalmed.
According to The Daily Caller, the GAO sent 19 investigators undercover to apply for Obamaphones using easily detectable fraudulent pretenses. In those cases, “we were approved to receive Lifeline services by 12 of the 19 Lifeline providers using fictitious eligibility documentation.”
Part of the problem is that there aren’t efficient checks to see if someone is eligible. To qualify for an Obamaphone, one needs to be on certain forms of government assistance, like SSI disability or food stamps.
However, the Federal Communications Commission left the task of screening applicants to the phone vendors, who profit off the program. Furthermore, they didn’t check through intergovernmental databases whether those who claimed they were on SSI on their Obamaphone application actually were.
In Georgia, an estimated 79 percent of those who claimed they were on SSI to receive a phone weren’t, and estimates for the United States at large are as high as 65 percent.
This massive fraud is beyond shameful, and the sad thing is that it was easily preventable. According to The Daily Caller, the GAO report noted “that after basic eligibility checks were instituted, the cellphones-for-the-poor program shrunk by a third, from $2.2 billion to $1.5 billion.
“In the 30 days following the addition of meager but previously absent anti-fraud measures, monthly payments dropped $40 million,” the outlet added.
There were other gems in the report (I was particularly impressed with the part where the program has $9 billion in funds stored away in private banks as opposed to in the Federal Treasury where it belongs), but the clear message is that a deliberate lack of oversight has facilitated kudzu-like growth of the Obamaphone program through willfully-ignored fraud.
If the program can’t be quashed — and I’m sure we’ll see some pusillanimity about going in that direction when Democrats start to cavil about the “fundamental meanness” of such a move — the least the administration and Congress can do is establish strict oversight. American taxpayers deserve better than to have their money squandered by politicians who find it politically inexpedient to prevent fraud.
The Importance of Leadership
Two hundred and forty-one years ago, the values of our nation were enshrined in the Declaration of Independence – our country’s most important historical document. But this Independence Day, we should take time to remember the courage, virtue, and talents of our Founders, who turned its words to action and delivered our liberty.
I mean more than simply remembering the Founding Fathers. I mean reflecting on the qualities they each embodied, qualities which emboldened them to defy the English crown, overcome a well-organized, experienced British military, and forge a new country – one in which “all men are created equal.”
Consider our first three presidents.
Without the sheer courage of George Washington, the American revolutionaries would have faced an impossible struggle against the British forces. While there were other commanders who were brilliant tacticians and others with as much, or more experience in war. Washington’s contagious bravery and unwavering determination, battle after battle, helped a relatively small Continental Army persevere and ultimately defeat tens of thousands of British soldiers.
Fearlessness was central to Washington’s character. Even decades before the Revolution, when Washington, served as a major in the French and Indian War at just 22, he sent a letter home to his brother, John. In it he wrote, “The right wing, where I stood, was exposed to and received all the enemy's fire ... I heard the bullets whistle, and, believe me, there is something charming in the sound."
It is no surprise that Washington was unanimously chosen to be the first leader of our nation in 1789. He was a symbol of American courage, honor, and valor.
Next, consider the unshakable principles of John Adams, our nation’s second president and first vice president under Washington. Adams, a lawyer by trade, was an integral force in driving out country to seek independence from Britain. He was a member of both Continental Congresses and one of the chief political philosophers of our new Republic.
Yet, despite being one of our nation's most ardent revolutionaries, in 1770 Adams successfully defended eight of the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre – one of the sparks that led to the Revolution. This was a tremendously unpopular move for him at the time. However, Adams believed so much in the importance of an impartial, even-handed judicial system, where the accused have a right to sound legal defense, that he resolved to ensure that mob rule did not prevail. Six of the officers were acquitted, while the other two pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
Finally, Thomas Jefferson brought tremendous intelligence to America’s legacy. It was Jefferson’s hand that penned the long list of charges against King George III and proclaimed America’s independence from Great Britain, saying “governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
John Adams insisted that Jefferson, who was then 33, write the declaration, saying Jefferson was a Virginian, popular, and “you can write ten times better than I can,” according to a letter Adams wrote to his former secretary of state, Timothy Pickering, on August 6, 1822.
In the letter, Adams wrote that when he and Jefferson presented the draft of the Declaration of Independence to the Committee of Five – those delegates of the Second Continental Congress charged with producing the document – “It was read and I do not remember that Franklin or Sherman criticized anything.”
After the revolution, Jefferson’s love of scholarship and curiosity led him to found the University of Virginia, and late in his life he sold his vast library to the United States, starting what would later become the Library of Congress.
Our nation's first three presidents illustrate only a small share of the virtues held by our Founding Fathers.
Benjamin Franklin was an endlessly energetic entrepreneur and inventor, Alexander Hamilton had unmatched perseverance, John Jay brought wisdom that shaped our first Supreme Court, and James Madison’s ability to lead earned him the title “Father of the Constitution” after he drafted the Constitution and spearheaded its ratification.
This Independence Day, we should all remember courage, strength of character, and virtues of our Founding Fathers, because these virtues – more than any historical document –embody the principles and values that will anchor the United States through the next 241 years.
Callista and I hope you and your families had a very happy, safe, and reflective Independence Day.
Your Friend,
Newt Gingrich
The FBI’s Trump-Russia Investigation Imploded Because Of This Document
The FBI has been investigating ties between Trump and Russia for over a year.
Journalists and Democrats believe this is the scandal that could take down Trump.
But the investigation is imploding because of one document.
As the FBI’s investigation progresses, it is becoming clear that the fake news dossier produced by ex-British Intelligence agent Christopher Steele is at the heart of the inquiry.
Steele’s memo – which was commissioned by the pro-Hillary Fusion GPS firm – alleged Russia had compromising information on Trump as well as secret meetings between Trump associates and Russian officials.
The document has been discredited because it can’t be verified.
One of the Trump associates interviewed by the FBI was energy executive Carter Page.
Page was briefly a foreign policy advisor to the Trump campaign, but he never played a major role and was gone within months.
He traveled to Moscow in July 2016 to give a speech, but the media and anti-Trump operatives have constantly highlighted him as someone who could be involved in possible collusion.
In fact, the FBI obtained a FISA warrant to wiretap his communications.
Those warrants are only good for 90 days, so the report came after the warrant expired, and based on the fact that no damaging information was leaked, produced nothing of any value.
Page said he was interviewed by the FBI and during the course of his questioning it became clear that the FBI’s case was being driven by the discredited Steele dossier.
Breitbart reports:
“Carter Page, the American financial consultant who was tangentially and briefly associated with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, told Breitbart News the controversial, largely discredited 35-page “dodgy dossier” served as the “central foundation” for the FBI’s extensive questioning of him about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
On Monday, the Washington Post first reported that FBI agents repeatedly questioned Page for about ten hours over a series of five meetings in March about the Russia narrative.
“Both the blessing and the curse of all my discussions with the FBI rested on the fact that the Dodgy Dossier clearly stood as the central foundation of the interrogations,” Page told Breitbart News.
“All of the various questions, in one format or another, largely stemmed from those same specific lies marketed by the Clinton campaign during the 2016 election.”
He continued: “The blessing rested in the fact that every aspect of these lies could be readily disproved for anyone with basic common sense. … The curse is the fact that our country allowed this clearly biased and baseless political opposition research to drive law enforcement for many months.”
Page further claimed that the FBI agents who questioned him indicated their “management” was concerned that he did not believe the conclusions made in the January 6 National Intelligence report alleging Russian hacking meant to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.”
Trump has repeatedly called the Russia investigation a hoax.
It has been dragging on for nearly a year and it has produced no evidence or allegations of wrongdoing.
Page’s claim that the FBI’s questioning was based on a fake news document is just another piece of evidence that this inquiry is a politically motivated witch hunt.
Trump on North Korea missile launch: 'Does this guy have anything better to do with his life?'
by Caitlin Yilek
"Does this guy have anything better to do with his life? Hard to believe that South Korea and Japan will put up with this much longer," President Trump tweeted. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster)
Shortly after North Korea conducted another ballistic missile test, President Trump took to Twitter late Monday to ask if Kim Jong-un had anything "better to do with his life."
"North Korea has just launched another missile. Does this guy have anything better to do with his life? Hard to believe that South Korea and Japan will put up with this much longer. Perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all!" Trump wrote.
North Korea has conducted almost a dozen missile tests in 2017.
Trump has been pushing China, sometimes through tweets, to take a tougher stance against North Korea as the latter works to develop a nuclear missile capable of reaching the U.S.
Trump was briefed on the latest missile test Monday night, according to the White House.
This Republican Just Shut Down Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders continues to push his disastrous schemes to ruin America. The media has given him a free ride.
But one Republican Senator had enough and shut him down.
The Democrats have used the debate over repealing Obamacare to push
their scheme to implement socialized medicine.
their scheme to implement socialized medicine.
Bernie Sanders proposed this on the campaign trail in 2016, and it was too radical even for Hillary Clinton.
But that didn’t dissuade him from championing the cause.
He’s been given media platforms to promote this insane scheme, and
fawning TV hosts have not really challenged him.
fawning TV hosts have not really challenged him.
His free pass ended when Kentucky Senator Rand Paul – who is also a doctor
– shut down his lunatic arguments in an interview on CNN.
– shut down his lunatic arguments in an interview on CNN.
Paul pointed out that Sanders’ vision for America was implemented in Venezuela and the country has descended into chaos with a starving population and total collapse of the country’s government and economy.
Real Clear Politics reports:
SEN. RAND PAUL: “IT IS AN ARTIFACT OF TAX POLICY DATING BACK TO WORLD WAR II THAT SAID INSURANCE IS GOING TO BE TIED TO EMPLOYMENT. IF WE WEREN’T DOING THAT — IF WE SAID TO THE PEOPLE IN THE INDIVIDUAL MARKET, TO THE PLUMBER, FOR EXAMPLE, YOU CAN JOIN THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. YOU CAN JOIN THE PLUMBER’S ASSOCIATION. YOU CAN JOIN THE ‘INDIVIDUALS THAT WANT TO GROUP TOGETHER’ ASSOCIATION, AND BUY YOUR INSURANCE AS A GROUP, YOU COULD GET A WAY OUT OF THAT INDIVIDUAL CONUNDRUM AND GET A GROUP POLICY. MOST GROUP POLICIES HAVE THINGS LIKE PREGNANCY.
IF YOU WORK FOR GENERAL MOTORS, MY GUESS IS PREGNANCY IS AUTOMATICALLY IN YOUR INSURANCE BECAUSE YOU ARE A BIG GROUP AND YOU HAVE THE LEVERAGE TO DEMAND FROM YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY…”
ERIN BURNETT, CNN: “SO WHY NOT JUST HAVE THE BIGGEST GROUP OF ALL, AND HAVE INSURANCE FOR EVERYBODY?”
RAND PAUL: “WELL, SOCIALISM IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. I KNOW YOU CAN ASK MY FRIEND SENATOR SANDERS. BUT SOCIALISM IS AN UTTER FAILURE, IT LEADS TO POVERTY. LOOK AT VENEZUELA. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST RESOURCE-RICH COUNTRIES IN ALL OF THE WORLD. THE AVERAGE PERSON THERE LOST 20 POUNDS LAST YEAR, NOT THROUGH CHOICE, BUT FROM VIRTUAL STARVATION.”
BURNETT: “YOU DID MAKE A GREAT ARGUMENT FOR NATIONALIZED HEALTH CARE. YOU SAID THE BIGGER THE GROUP, THE LOWER THE COST, SO I’M TAKING YOUR ARGUMENT TO ITS LOGICAL CONCLUSION.”
PAUL: “NO, NO, I’M TALKING ABOUT VOLUNTARY GROUPS, NOT THE GULAG — WHEN PEOPLE JOIN TOGETHER, LARGE ASSOCIATIONS WITH A GOOD IDEA. COLLECTIVE BARGAINING IS NOT A BAD IDEA. LABOR, GETTING TOGETHER. BUT THAT’S NOT THE GOVERNMENT DOING IT. THAT’S JUST PEOPLE GETTING TOGETHER, IN ORDER TO HAVE MORE LEVERAGE IN THE MARKETPLACE.
SO I’M ALL FOR TRYING TO BALANCE THE EQUATION WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES. I THINK THEY HAVE TOO MUCH POWER, BUT I AM NOT WILLING TO HAVE THE GOVERNMENT BREAK THEM UP.”
CNN’s Erin Burnett completely face planted when she tried to argue that single-payer healthcare would lower costs.
The price tag for socialized medicine is an astronomical $32 trillion.
NPR reports:
THE CENTER HAD ALREADY ESTIMATED THAT SANDERS’ TAX PLAN ALONE WOULD ADD $15.3 TRILLION IN REVENUE OVER 10 YEARS. WHAT HAPPENS TO THAT BIG BUMP IN REVENUE? THE MAIN EXPENSE: SANDERS’ HEALTH CARE PLAN. THE HEALTH POLICY CENTER (LIKE TPC, A PROJECT OF THE URBAN INSTITUTE, A D.C. THINK TANK) ESTIMATED THAT SANDERS’ HEALTH PROPOSAL WOULD COST THE GOVERNMENT AN ADDITIONAL $32 TRILLION TO WHAT IT PAYS NOW.
It’s about time Bernie Sanders’ loony arguments for government-run health care got smacked down.
Vatican requests UN to remove horrific abortion vacuum from emergency health kits
Pete Baklinski
Pete Baklinski
GENEVA, June 30, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) -- The Vatican’s representative to the United Nations (UN) criticized a resolution that called for an abortion vacuum machine, among other things, to be included in emergency kits to aid countries facing a humanitarian crisis.
Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN in Geneva, told the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC ) in a June 23 meeting that “health care services must never be intended - or operate - against the life of the most defenseless or the unborn.”
In April, the Council updated its policy for responding to a humanitarian crisis. Titled Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations, the new policy has made it a “priority” that women in areas of crisis have access to the “Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health” (MISP). Part of the service package consists of “reproductive health kits” that include abortifacient contraception as well as a “vacuum” extractor for abortion.
Archbishop Jurkovič stated in his address:
The Minimal Initial Service Package (MISP) is a set of priority activities, provided by UNFPA, and includes 13 types of Reproductive Health Kits designed for women and girls of reproductive age, some of which entail abortion. Among them, “KIT 10” provides the well-known “vacuum extractor”, which is the most common method to procure abortion, and which brings serious risks also to the mother’s health. Our Delegation would like to insist that health care services must never be intended - or operate - against the life of the most defenseless or the unborn. The application of the right to life must never discriminate based on the various stages of life. Although we acknowledge the particular risks that women and children face in humanitarian emergencies contexts and their specific and integral needs regarding access to basic health care, essential obstetric services, sanitary and food security, we cannot accept as an appropriate solution those services that provide and/or promote abortion. For these reasons, our Delegation dissociates itself from the paragraphs of the resolution that promote MISP as a proper answer to the already dramatic situations faced by so many women and children in challenging humanitarian settings.
Archbishop Jurkovič stated the Holy See’s formal “reservations” regarding the policy’s use of the concepts “sexual and reproductive health” as well as “gender.”
“The Holy See does not consider abortion, access to abortion, or access to abortifacients as a dimension of the terms ‘sexual and reproductive health’ and ‘sexual and reproductive healthcare services,’ he said.
“With reference to ‘gender,’ the Holy See understands the term to be grounded in biological sexual identity and difference. We kindly ask that the text of this statement be included on the official records of this meeting,” he added.
Despite Pope Francis’ enthusiastic support for UN policies, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — that among other things push “universal access” to “sexual and reproductive health” — the Catholic Church’s official position at the UN has largely been more reserved.
For instance, last year the Holy See’s representative to the UN clarified that the Holy See opposes any interpretation of the SDGs that could be used to support abortion, contraception, population control, and gender ideology.
Prior to this, however, in 2015, the Holy See told the UN that it supported the goals and targets of the SDGs “verbatim.” The Holy See later told pro-life advocates alarmed at the affirming language that it had already raised formal “reservations” about the “sexuality and reproductive” language used in the goals.
The Holy See “cannot and will never support … anything that can undermine the Family or the Right to Life from the moment of conception,” Msgr. Joseph Grech, who works closely with the UN on behalf of the Church, told LifeSiteNews at that time.
“As Delegation of the Holy See we have always raised our concerns and our opposition on issues which undermine the Family and Life from the moment of conception,” he added.
