Dershowitz on Trump Jr Meeting: ‘A Candidate Has the Right to Get Information From Whatever Source’

Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Justice,” Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz defended President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., for meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya to do opposition research.
According to Dershowitz, there is nothing wrong with a candidate getting information on his opponent from any type of source.
“If it were to be prosecuted, the First Amendment would trump. A candidate has the right to get information from whatever source the information comes,” he argued.
Dershowitz also pointed out, “If the material was obtained unlawfully, you prosecute, if you can, the people who obtain the material. But there is a First Amendment right of a candidate to use information. You can’t include information under the campaign finance law. That would be unconstitutional.”

Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI: Church Is ‘on the Verge of Capsizing’

The Catholic Church is a boat “on the verge of capsizing,” said Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in a personal message for the funeral Mass of his close friend, Cardinal Joachim Meisner on Saturday.
Given his inability to travel, the usually silent retired Pope delivered the message in writing, and had it read aloud in the Cologne Cathedral by his personal secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, who also serves as Prefect of the Papal Household for Pope Francis.
In the text, Benedict said that Cardinal Meisner “found it difficult to leave his post, especially at a time in which the Church stands in particularly pressing need of convincing shepherds who can resist the dictatorship of the spirit of the age and who live and think the faith with determination.”
What moved me all the more, Benedict said, was that, “in this last period of his life, he learned to let go and to live out of a deep conviction that the Lord does not abandon His Church, even when the boat has taken on so much water as to be on the verge of capsizing.”
Notably, Cardinal Meisner was one of the four cardinals who presented a series of questions, or “dubia,” to Pope Francis last September, asking him to clarify five serious doctrinal doubts proceeding from his 2016 apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) concerning Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried, the indissolubility of marriage, and the proper role of conscience.
The other three prelates who submitted the questions to the Pope were Cardinal Raymond Burke, patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Carlo Caffarra, archbishop emeritus of Bologna; and Walter Brandmüller, president emeritus of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences.
When Pope Francis failed to respond to the dubia, the four cardinals published their questions publicly last November.
“The Holy Father has decided not to respond,” they wrote. “We have interpreted his sovereign decision as an invitation to continue the reflection and the discussion, calmly and with respect.”
Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI turned 90 years old on Easter Sunday, after which he gave a rare birthday speech inside the Vatican expressing his thanksgiving to God for the gift of life.
“My heart is filled with gratitude for the 90 years that the good God has given me,” said Benedict, who retired as pope on Feb. 28, 2013, the first pontiff to do so in 600 years.
“There have also been trials and difficult times, but through it all He has always led me and pulled me through, so that I could continue on my path,” he said.

One of Barack Obama’s biggest failures was allowing ISIS to grow in strength.
The Islamic terrorist organization gained in strength and gobbled up territory in Iraq and Syria.
But all that changed when General “Mad Dog” Mattis took charge.
When Donald Trump tapped Mattis to be his Secretary of Defense, conservatives cheered.
They knew Trump meant business when he said he wanted to defeat ISIS and turn the page from Obama’s policy of weakness.
Mattis stated he was changing course from Obama’s policies to those of annihilation in the fight against ISIS.

HE SAID THE GOAL WAS TO TAKE OUT THE MILITANTS BEFORE THEY COULD FLEE TO NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES.

Mattis’ new plan paid immediate dividends.
By early July, the caliphate was crushed and Mosul was liberated from ISIS’ control.

Democrats are on an epic losing streak.They have dropped four straight contested special elections since Donald Trump took office.
Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi made an announcement about their message that will doom the Democrats to a landslide defeat.
In an interview with a local San Francisco affiliate, Pelosi announced who would lead the Democrats in the 2018 midterms.
She declared it would be her and Chuck Schumer.

“House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) described herself and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) as the “voices for winning” back the majorities in their respective chambers in the 2018 midterm elections.
In an interview with KTVU anchor Ken Wayne published Tuesday, Pelosi discussed the Democratic Party’s hopes of taking back the majority from the Republicans. The GOP has held the House since 2010 and the Senate since 2014.
Pelosi said the situation was similar to the preconditions to Democrats taking back the chambers in 2006, the second midterm of George W. Bush’s presidency. Historically, the party of the incumbent president struggles in midterms; Barack Obama’s Democrats suffered brutal losses in 2010 and 2014, and Bush’s Republicans in 2006 took a “thumping,” as Bush put it.
“We’re the voices, the Senate leader and I are the voices for winning those races in [the] House and the Senate, and we’re ready,” Pelosi said.
She said it was “very possible” for Democrats to take back the House, adding it might be easier than winning back the Senate, where Republicans are defending fewer seats.”
Pelosi and Schumer would be an odd couple for the Democrats to pin their hopes on.
The 2016 election revealed the Democrats to be a niche party confined to the coasts and lashed to the mast of identity politics and bizarre social issues like gender neutral bathrooms.
And Pelosi being from San Francisco and Schumer hailing from New York only reinforces the image of the Democrats as urban, coastal elites.
This stereotype alienated Democrats from the middle of the country and helped Donald Trump carry the industrial Midwest states that no Republican had carried in a generation.
It’s also a strange choice considering the Democrats lack of success in special elections.
In the race to fill the vacant seat in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District, the GOP’s most potent argument was tying the Democrats to Nancy Pelosi.
She has led the Democrats since 2003 and the party has lost the 2004, 2010, 2014 and 2016 elections.
Since Schumer ascended to the position of Senate Minority Leader, he has followed in Pelosi’s footsteps.
He is a fundraising powerhouse, but he’s also a big city elitist.
Will Pelosi and Schumer lead the Democrats to victory?
They are tied to the same far-left ideology and cultural condescension that has cost the Democrats over 1,000 seats at every level of government since 2010.
Pelosi and Schumer are the faces of failure.

Dr. Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to President Donald J. Trump, has taken the next major step in the war against the legacy, establishment media: He has now defined the enemy.
President Trump and White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon—who along with Gorka is a former Breitbart News official—earlier this year identified the media class as the “opposition party.”
That happened in late January, just after the inauguration. Bannon infamously teased the media alongside White House chief of staff Reince Priebus as reporters lined an area of the White House at one point, saying there’s “the opposition party, all lined up.”

CNN and others like the New York Times and MSNBC and so many more continue to publish demonstrably fake news without correction, apology, or consequences—unless they come under serious pressure as CNN was forced to have three of its editorial staff resign over the very fake news scandal engulfing the network. But since the media continues to refuse to act appropriately, now President Trump’s and the American people’s battle against fake news is hitting a new level.
Gorka, in a series of television appearances this weekend, has come forward with a terminology to define the enemy in this war: The “Fake News Industrial Complex.” Defining the enemy—knowing the enemy—is critical to winning in war.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle,” Sun Tzu wrote in the Art of War, per a translation Lionel Giles published by MIT.
Having a clear definition of the terminology and structure of the fake news world—the “Fake News Industrial Complex” does that—makes it easier for Trump to win the ever-looming war with the media. Sources close to the president tell Breitbart News that a “filthy, bloody war looms” with the fake news media—something the media will lose when confronted directly, head-on, for the first time it has ever been challenged.
Supporters of the president have also doubled down after CNN threatened to dox an anonymous Reddit user for supposedly making a popular WWE meme of the president body-slamming the logo of the anti-Trump network. In a satirical but highly violent viral video, Trump, superimposed on Braveheart’s William Wallace, literally does battle with establishment media:
Now, Gorka is leading the charge in setting the battle lines. He appeared on both Sean Hannity’s and Judge Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News programs.
Former Miss USA Recalls How Trump Stepped In To Change Her Life
The dark days of her past are long over, but former Miss USA Tara Conner has not forgotten who opened the door to a better life — President Donald Trump.
Conner made headlines in 2006 when, after winning the Miss USA contest, she tested positive for cocaine. Rather than abide by the strict rules of the pageant, Trump did not take her crown away, but supported her rehabilitation.
“I became famous as ‘Mess USA’ when my boss — now the president of the United States — tossed me into rehab after I tested positive for cocaine,” she wrote in an op-ed for USA Today.
“Rather than strip me of my crown or add to the negative press with a humiliation campaign, Donald Trump surprised me, and shocked the world, when he held a news conference and declared: ‘Tara is going to be given a second chance,'” she wrote.
Trump’s failure to destroy her life was the turning point that brought her back, she said.
“Donald Trump had a choice. He could have fired me or he could have given me an opportunity to get help, and thank God he chose to give me that opportunity because it was a huge step forward to the recovery movement,” she said.
“I believe he saw the good in me and had a deeper understanding of what I was dealing with, having lost a brother to alcoholism,” she said.
Conner is now campaigning for expanded treatment for those with addiction.
“I feel as though every American should be afforded the same opportunity that I was given. Addiction is a progressive disease, and substance misuse is the leading cause of death for those 50 and under,” she said.
“These issues are so important to me because when I got sober, I faced the stigma of addiction and mental illness head-on. I was a walking target, and even now, over a decade sober, I still get shamed on a daily basis,” she said.
Conner said addiction is not a moral condition, but a physical one.
“I’ve said this many times before, but I wasn’t a bad person that needed to be good. I was a sick person that needed to get well,” she said. “My addiction was in full force at 14 years old. My brain wasn’t fully developed, yet people were claiming that I chose that life.”
IS GLOBAL WARMING ALARMISM A COMPLETE FRAUD?
I usually try to give global warming hysterics the benefit of the doubt–sincere but misguided, not good at math, unacquainted with the Earth’s highly variable climatic history, and so on. But sometimes data come along that make that sympathetic attitude hard to sustain.
Like this paper by Dr. James P. Wallace III, Dr. Joseph S. D’Aleo, and Dr. Craig D. Idso, which was published last month. Its title is “On the Validity of NOAA, NASA and Hadley CRU Global Average Surface Temperature Data & The Validity of EPA’s CO2 Endangerment Finding.” You should read it all, but one portion that struck me related to the changes that the alarmists who are in charge of the temperature record have made to the temperatures that were actually recorded by thermometers in past decades.
There are a number of charts, but this is a good example. It plots the temperatures that a single source, NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies–a notorious haven for alarmists–has reported over the years.
Note that the temperatures that were recorded at the time can’t have changed. The only difference is how GISS has chosen to report them, following “adjustments” of various sorts, over the years. The high temperatures that GISS reported in 1980, based on thermometer readings, have progressively declined over the years as the alarmists have desperately tried to shore up their global warming theory:
There is no other branch of science in which such after-the-fact changes in data to fit a politicized theory would be greeted with anything but contempt. Why are such shenanigans tolerated here? Presumably many billions of dollars in government funding have something to do with it.
These charts are interesting, too. Reading the newspapers, you would think that we are suffering through an unprecedented heat wave every year. But that isn’t true at all. Click to enlarge:
