Forget Lee, Washington; Christ Statue Must Go from Catholic School
1
by IAN MASON
San Domenico School, a nominally Catholic institution in San Anselmo, California, has removed the vast majority of its Christian statues and icons as “an effort to be inclusive of all faiths.”
The iconoclasm comes as a nationwide war rages to erase from public spaces historical symbols some people find offensive. San Domenico officials told the Marin Independent Journal that their “strategic plan,” which includes removing the word “Catholic” from the school’s mission statement, has nothing to do with the events this month in Charlottesville or the wider controversy about historical monuments.
“[P]eople have a hard time with change,” San Domenico board of trustees chairwoman Amy Skewes-Cox said, denying the plan, which does not see the removal of all but 18 of the school’s 180 religious symbols as having anything to do with the campaign against Confederate monuments. “If you walk on the campus and the first thing you confront is three or four statues of St. Dominic or St. Francis, it could be alienating for that other religion, and we didn’t want to further that feeling.”
Artifacts removed include a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ once prominently placed in the school’s center courtyard. “The one main statue that has everyone fired up is the baby Jesus and Mary one,” Kim Pipki, a mother who withdrew her child from San Domenico said. “People were shocked that the statues were pitched in the basement.”
Other parents were similarly upset. Another San Domenico mother, Shannon Fitzpatrick, described it as follows:
Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs.
In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.
The removal of historical markers in an effort to appease allegedly offended minorities became a craze on the political left long before Charlottesville but has spun into a hysteria in the last few weeks. Confederate memorials, ostensibly the cause of the craze, were quickly left in the dust, replaced by controversy over the slave-owning presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson. Discoverer of the New World Christopher Columbus is the latest target.
No American popular majority exists for removing Confederate monuments, let alone other historical, and, in this case, religious statues that allegedly offend.
Cohn 'Complained Loudly About Trump', Trump 'Furious'
By Sandy Fitzgerald
President Donald Trump was privately furious that National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn publicly flogged his reaction to the violent Charlottesville, Virginia protests in a magazine article, but Cohn's public complaints were also aired loudly during a dinner with friends in New York City this week as well, according to a new report.
On Wednesday, two days before The Financial Times published its interview with Cohn over Trump's Charlottesville comments, the president's key economic adviser was overheard during a dinner with friends in Long Island, in a voice loud enough to be heard by other diners, complaining about Trump, a source familiar with the dinner told The Washington Post.
During the dinner, held at a restaurant called the Frisky Oyster, Cohn said he has to be careful not to give the president too much advance notice about his ideas. The former Goldman-Sachs banker said if he gives Trump too much lead time, the president could hinder planning by disclosing information too soon.
Meanwhile, in his interview with The Financial Times, Cohn, a Jewish-American and president of Goldman Sachs before being tapped to head the White House National Economic Council, sharply criticized Trump's Charlottesville "both sides" comments, telling the publication "citizens standing up for equality and freedom can never be equated with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK."
Cohn also called on the administration to "do better in consistently and unequivocally condemning these groups," and said that he'd faced "enormous pressure" to resign after the Charlottesville comments.
The comments marked the first time a member of Trump's inner circle condemned his actions publicly, notes The Post, but Cohn has been known to block proposals made by former chief strategist Stephen Bannon and others who have aligned with Trump's nationalist leanings. Instead, he often allies himself with with Trump's daughter, Ivanka and her husband, senior advisor Jared Kushner.
Trump allies hoping to undermine Cohn were happy about his interview, hoping that it would widen a rift between the president and his key economic adviser.
However, Trump is planning to begin his push in earnest next week for tax code reform, and Cohn and his team are central in designing the administration's strategy and a $1 trillion infrastructure plan, notes The Post.
Cohn, who was with Trump on stage during his Charlottesville remarks, told friends in New York and the White House that he was not going to remain quiet about the comments.
He also drafted a resignation letter, but neither signed it or discussed it with the president, a source said.
However, Cohn told The Financial Times that he is "reluctant" to resign as he wants to fulfill his duties to the United States.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who is also Jewish, has resisted calls to resign over Charlottesville, and commented at Friday's White House press briefing that he would not resign, and that Cohn is also "committed to be here."
The growing tension between Trump and Cohn is casting doubt that Trump will end up naming Cohn to replace Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen, whose term expires early next year.
Alan Blinder, a former Fed vice chairman, told The Post he does not think Cohn is the front-runner to head the Fed anymore, even though Cohn does support Trump's call to roll back banking regulations.
There are several other potential replacements for Yellen, should it come to that, notes The Post, including former Fed governor Kevin Warsh; John Taylor, a Stanford University economics professor; and Glenn Hubbard, a former Bush economic adviser and dean of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
Yellen, a Democrat, has also criticized Trump. On Friday, during a speech in Jackson, Wyoming, Yellen said Trump's call to roll back financial regulations was not a good idea, considering the reforms strengthened the financial system.
Pelosi Betrays Entire Country With Sick Anti-American Threat
Mark Prvulovic
If there is one thing that Americans are getting fed up with, it’s the lack of bipartisan willingness to help get this country back on track. From the moment President Trump took office, Democrats have become outright rebellious (alongside some GOP traitors as well), preferring to let this nation implode rather than work together.
Nancy Pelosi is letting people know that she would rather see this nation implode financially than work together with Trump. According to The Washington Times, Pelosi said that the GOP would have to pass a bill to raise the debt ceiling without any support from the Democrats. If this bill suffers the same fate as the Obamacare repeal bill that stalled out thanks to rebels within the GOP, the US could very well default on its debts – a nightmare that would make 2008 look like an economic hiccup in comparison.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that getting a bill passed to raise the debt ceiling was not up to the Democrats, but the Republicans. “With the White House, House and Senate under one party control, the American people can expect and deserve a plan from Republicans to avert a catastrophic default,” she stated.
Even worse, Pelosi had the nerve to suggest that “with so much at risk for hard-working families, Republicans need to stop the chaos and sort themselves out in a hurry,” a comment that abdicated any responsibility the Democrats have for dealing with the problem.
For eight years under the Obama administration, the Democrats sat idly by, watching the former president increase this nation’s debt by one trillion dollars every year – a 68 percent increase.
They kept kicking the can down the road, knowing that the next person to come into office would have to deal with the financial irresponsibility of the Obama administration. With it being Trump, a person they very much dislike, it seems that they are more than willing to see the United States default on its loans in order to destroy the Trump administration for good.
The president himself said that “now we have a big deal with Dems holding them up (as usual) on Debt Ceiling approval. Could have been so easy – now a mess!”
The Democrats are playing a nightmarish game of chicken, in which they are refusing to back down despite the looming threats of America defaulting on its loans.
Roger Stone: Cohn ‘Should Be Fired Immediately’ for Publicly Criticizing Trump
Confidante of the president says economic adviser's comments were 'both disloyal and unprofessional'
by Jim Stinson
President Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, should be fired immediately for publicly criticizing the president, Roger Stone, a longtime Trump confidante, told LifeZette Friday.
Cohn, the chairman of the National Economic Council, aired his disappointment with Trump’s reaction to a racist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on August 12 that turned deadly.
Cohn almost resigned after Trump's Charlottesville reaction: FT
"This administration can and must do better in consistently and unequivocally condemning these groups and do everything we can to heal the deep divisions that exist in our communities," Cohn told the Financial Times for a Friday story.
Cohn had long been rumored to have been upset since Trump's surprise press conference in Trump Tower on August 16, when Trump insisted "both sides" were to blame for the violence. The violence resulted in the death of one counter protester and indirectly led to the deaths of two state police officers on air patrol.
Cohn admitted the rumors were true and that he had come under outside pressure to resign.
"I have come under enormous pressure both to resign and to remain in my current position," Cohn said. "As a patriotic American, I am reluctant to leave my post. But I also feel compelled to voice my distress over the events of the last two weeks. Citizens standing up for equality and freedom can never be equated with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK."
Both Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, who is also Jewish, have come under criticism for remaining in Trump's administration. The Washington Post's columnist, Dana Milbank, even suggested last week the men were "court Jews."
"White House staff never criticizes the president or the administration in public ... His comments are both disloyal and unprofessional."
The pressure has worked to a degree. Cohn reportedly prepared a letter of resignation at the urging of his wife and friends, according to The New York Times.
Trump prizes loyalty through thick and thin, so Cohn's criticisms may force Trump's hand. In a series of texts to LifeZette, Stone said it should.
"He should be fired immediately," said Stone. "White House staff never criticizes the president or the administration in public. Gary serves at the pleasure of the president. His comments are both disloyal and unprofessional."
Cohn was reportedly brought on board by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. A former chief executive of Goldman Sachs, Cohn soon earned the wrath of conservatives and loyalists, who nicknamed him "Globalist Gary."
Cohn urged Trump to keep the nation a participant in the Paris climate accord, but Trump took the United States out of it after his late May trip to Europe. Cohn is also known for lobbying Trump to stay away from his instincts on free trade.
Cohn's divergent views on trade caused him to repeatedly clash with Steve Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist.
But Cohn and Mnuchin have embraced Trump's bold tax reform plan, which would cut the top corporate tax rate to 15 percent, and reduce the number of individual tax brackets to three.
Cohn now faces the lion's wrath. And the media reacted strongly to Cohn's remarks, playing up the internal division.
"It's got all the ingredients to enrage the president: a subordinate criticizing him, and an effective endorsement of how the mainstream media portrayed the events," wrote Axios on Friday morning. "The way Trump will see it, Cohn is siding with the fake news."
At Friday's press briefing, Mnuchin denied that Trump meant to equate the hate groups with counter protesters, and that Cohn was thinking of leaving.
"His number-one focus is working on tax reform with me," said Mnuchin.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary, took a few questions on the Cohn interview, too. She said, for example, that 95 percent of the Financial Times interview was on tax reform.
South Carolina Governor Halts All Funding for Abortion Clinics
3
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster issued an executive order Friday that eliminates all state and local funding to health centers and providers affiliated with abortion clinics.
Directed state agencies to cease providing state or local funds, whether via grant, contract, state-administered federal funds, or any other form, to any physician or professional medical practice affiliated with an abortion clinic and operating concurrently with – and in the same physical, geographic location or footprint as – an abortion clinic.
Additionally the Republican governor has directed the state’s health department to apply for waivers from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to exclude abortion clinics from South Carolina’s list of Medicaid providers. The state will make available a “user-friendly list” of all qualified women’s health providers that do not perform abortions and are located within a 25-mile radius of abortion clinics that are no longer on the state’s Medicaid provider list.
“There are a variety of agencies, clinics, and medical entities in South Carolina that receive taxpayer funding to offer important women’s health and family planning services without performing abortions,” said the governor. “Taxpayer dollars must not directly or indirectly subsidize abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.”
The Post and Courier notes that three clinics perform elective abortions in South Carolina – including one that is a Planned Parenthood affiliate.
Planned Parenthood condemned the move by McMaster on Twitter:
Gov. @HenryMcmaster's order attacks Planned Parenthood health centers — & his constituents are fighting back. https://buff.ly/2wFIxWo
Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, the chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, issued a statement Friday in which she said 4,000 patients are receiving health care at Planned Parenthood clinics in South Carolina each year.
“And we’ll leave no stone unturned to protect our patients’ access to health care,” she added.
However, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, thanked McMaster for protecting taxpayers and ensuring their money funds comprehensive care for women and families, rather than facilities that are tied to the highly controversial issue of abortion. Dannenfelser said:
Governor McMaster’s additional request that South Carolina be allowed to cut off Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding through Medicaid and instead fund community health centers should be granted. The Trump Administration should immediately offer the same Medicaid flexibility to all states. Federally supported comprehensive health care entities outnumber the abortion chain by more than 20 to one nationwide, and by a whopping 134 to one in South Carolina.
Much of Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funds are received through Medicaid reimbursements and allow the group to be viewed as a provider of health care services. The organization’s own recently released annual report, however, shows its profits, taxpayer funding, and number of abortions performed have all increased over the past year, while many of its non-abortion services–such as contraception, cancer screenings, and prenatal services–have decreased over the same period.
Nevertheless, Planned Parenthood is advertising itself as a “healthcare provider,” and its president, Cecile Richards, has testified before Congress that, “abortion is healthcare.”
Planned Parenthood also receives funding through federal family planning grants. In April, President Donald Trump signed a resolution that overturns former President Barack Obama’s rule that forced states to provide family planning grants under Title X to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.
A federal appeals court also ruled last week that Arkansas may block Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid reimbursement funding in response to the release of videos by undercover journalists that exposed the abortion chain’s alleged profiteering from the sales of aborted baby parts.
In a 2-1 decision, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed preliminary injunctions that prohibited Arkansas from eliminating Planned Parenthood from its list of healthcare providers eligible for Medicaid reimbursement.
The authors of a recently released report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) – the research arm of the Susan B. Anthony List – find that Planned Parenthood depends primarily on its abortion-centered business model and is not a significant provider of medical care in the United States, despite its self-promotion as an “irreplaceable” and “life-saving” healthcare provider.
The report observes that Planned Parenthood provides less than 1.4 percent of the nation’s HIV tests and less than one percent of pap tests and that in the last five years, service-to-client ratios for breast exams and pap tests have declined by 37 percent.
“There is little or no demonstrable capability for definitive diagnosis or a range of treatments for any disease or condition at Planned Parenthood centers,” write CLI President Chuck Donovan and Vice President and Director of Data Analytics Dr. James Studnicki. “With the exception of abortion, Planned Parenthood does not provide any service that is not easily available from alternative providers.”
Developing: New Army Appears on NK Border… This Is a Game Changer
BY MARTIN LIOLL
There’s a new player in the North Korean conflict, and it’s one that should have Trump administration very worried.
According to Reuters, nuclear-capable Russian bombers flew a mission around the Korean Peninsula. The action was apparently taken in response to joint U.S.-South Korean military drills this week. In addition to the bombers, Russian fighter escorts and aircraft with intelligence-gathering capabilities were also involved.
“Our long-range aviation pilots, according to an established plan, regularly carry out flights over neutral waters over the Atlantic, the Arctic, the Black Sea and the Pacific Ocean from their bases and from tactical airfields,” a statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry said.
However, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, South Korean officials said the flight violated South Korean airspace borders.
“As the Russian aircraft entered the KADIZ (Korea Air Defense Identification Zone) in formation yesterday morning, a squadron of our Air Force jets made an emergency sorties,” an anonymous source in the government told Yonhap on Thursday.
The flight was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on the same day the Russians officially complained about the war games between South Korea and the United States, leaving little doubt that the two incidents were connected.
“The U.S. and South Korea holding yet more large-scale military and naval exercises does not help reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a press briefing.
“We urge all sides to exercise maximum caution. Given the arms build-up in the region, any rash move or even an unintended incident could spark a military conflict.”
However, it’s worth noting that the U.S.-South Korea exercises had been planned for quite some time — long before things began becoming exceptionally testy on the Korean Peninsula.
Russia making itself known in North Korea is a game changer, and not a particularly good one — especially since, along with China, they’re one of Pyongyang’s closer allies.
However, President Trump has shown himself more than willing to stand toe-to-toe with America’s adversaries. Here’s hoping he shows both Russia and China that his administration isn’t playing games.
Ohio VFW Post Sends Perfect Message to Anthem-Kneeling NFL Team
The National Football League and its players seem to be increasingly out of touch with the American people — and one VFW post in Ohio just sent a clear message that is gaining major attention.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3345 in Strongsville, Ohio, recently announced that they won’t be broadcasting Cleveland Browns games at their hall this football season.
“We like our Browns — we love our flag more. Your games will no longer be shown here. God Bless America!” declared a sign outside the VFW post, according to WJW News.
That decision came after a dozen Cleveland Browns football players participated in an unpatriotic demonstration, and knelt in protest during the national anthem of last Monday’s professional game.
In addition to the veterans at Post 3345, several other prominent Ohio residents also voiced their outrage over the stunt.

In addition to the veterans at Post 3345, several other prominent Ohio residents also voiced their outrage over the stunt.
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Bill O’Neil, who is also an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, used Facebook to speak out about the protest.
“I will NEVER attend a sporting event where the draft dodging millionaire athletes disrespect the veterans who earned them the right to be on that field. Shame on you all,” the justice wrote.
According to The PostGame, legendary Cleveland player Jim Brown also had a few choice words for players who take a knee during our nation’s anthem.
“I’m an American. I don’t desecrate my flag and my national anthem. I’m not gonna do anything against the flag and national anthem,” explained the former Hall of Fame fullback, who is himself black.
So-called social justice warriors like the Cleveland Browns players and Kaepernick before them do have a right to voice their grievances… but there is a right way and a wrong way to do it, and disrespecting the flag during the national anthem is not the correct time.
Hopefully, leagues such as the NFL will realize that they are quickly alienating their game-watching base with unpatriotic publicity stunts.
If the VFW post’s message is any indication, however, Americans will simply start turning off their televisions and leaving stadium seats empty.
Then There’s Lib Sheriff Who Declares Antifa Alliance, Tears Down US Flag
BY BENJAMIN ARIE
The group known as “antifa” has been shown to be anti-police and anarchist… and to say that they don’t represent American values is an understatement.
Shockingly, however, one sheriff in a left-leaning part of the country just sided with that radical group, and did something that can only be considered a slap in the face to America’s law enforcement community.
Sheriff Mike Reese of Multnomah County, Oregon — which includes the liberal enclave of Portland — reportedly ordered a law enforcement memorial flag — an American flag with a thin blue line to represent police officers — to be removed from his deputies’ break room.
According to KGW News, Reese declared that the flag could be considered offensive and a “sign of disrespect.”
The flag, which is meant to memorialize police officers who are killed or wounded in the line of duty, is usually seen as a sign of solidarity with law enforcement.
In their crusade against law and order, however, militant leftist groups have targeted anything that supports officers… and that includes the “thin blue line” flag.
Sadly, it looks like the Portland area sheriff has bought into that narrative.
“For some (the thin blue line flag) is a symbol honoring fallen law enforcement officers. For others, the flag is seen as a sign of disrespect toward communities of color,” Reese said.
The sheriff used the vague excuse that the flag was an “altered United States flag” to justify its removal. However, that explanation was quickly mocked by citizens, who posted photos of Sheriff Reese himself holding the same flag before it became politically inconvenient.
Photos of Reese smiling and posing with officers wearing both the blue line flag and modified “rainbow” LGBT American flags were also posted.
It seems that the left-leaning sheriff has no problem with “altered” flags until cop-hating militants raise their voices. Then he caves.
“The flag is a memorial to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities,” the Oregon Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 explained to the sheriff on Facebook.
“Your actions were a slap in the face of slain officer’s families everywhere, and by extension, no officer serving in our nation today should find your behavior acceptable.”
In the opinion of Conservative Tribune, repeatedly giving in to the demands of anti-law enforcement groups typified by “antifa” is the same as surrendering to them — even worse, taking their side in some misbegotten alliance.
People who use violence, hide their faces, and employ intimidation cannot be reasoned with, and there is no compromise for groups who are opposed to the rule of law and the enforcement of a civilized society.
You cannot extend an olive branch to anarchists — especially when doing so insults men and women who risk their lives every day to defend citizens and enforce the law.
People like Sheriff Reese might not like to admit it, but we are in the middle of a clash between two sides: Those who believe in a nation of laws, and those who believe they can do anything without consequence in the name of “social justice.”
The vast majority of Americans are on the side of laws and the officers who enforce them. Unfortunately, it looks like this sheriff has just planted his flag firmly in the other camp.
G’ day…Ciao…
