Speak Easy, Speak Love
by McKelle George
Swag Only Giveaway
U.S. Only

Greenwillow Books
Released 9/19/2017

Six teenagers’ lives intertwine during one thrilling summer full of romantic misunderstandings and dangerous deals in this sparkling retelling of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

After she gets kicked out of boarding school, seventeen-year-old Beatrice goes to her uncle’s estate on Long Island. But Hey Nonny Nonny is more than just a rundown old mansion. Beatrice’s cousin, Hero, runs a struggling speakeasy out of the basement—one that might not survive the summer.

Along with Prince, a poor young man determined to prove his worth; his brother, John, a dark and dangerous agent of the local mob; Benedick, a handsome trust-fund kid trying to become a writer; and Maggie, a beautiful and talented singer; Beatrice and Hero throw all their efforts into planning a massive party to save the speakeasy. Despite all their worries, the summer is beautiful, love is in the air, and Beatrice and Benedick are caught up in a romantic battle of wits that their friends might be quietly orchestrating in the background.

Hilariously clever and utterly charming, McKelle George’s debut novel is full of intrigue and 1920s charm. For fans of Jenny Han, Stephanie Perkins, and Anna Godbersen.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Speak Easy, Speak Love?

I would have to say the characters and their relationships with each other. The book has a wide cast (much like a Shakespeare play!) and I love how tangled up in each other they are. There are romantic feelings, bonds of friendship, and familial relationships, all criss-crossing with each other and making life messy and complicated, but also full of love—and all set in the fascinating time period of the 1920s!

Kaleidoscope Song
by Fox Benwell
Hardcover Giveaway
U.S. Only

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Released 9/19/2017

South Africa is loud. Listen. Do you hear the song and dance of it? The chorus of Khayelitsha life? Every voice is different, its pitch and tone and intonation as distinct as the words we choose and how we wrap our mouths around them. But everybody has a voice, and everybody sings…

Fifteen year old Neo loves music, it punctuates her life and shapes the way she views the world. A life in radio is all she’s ever wanted.
When Umzi Radio broadcasts live in a nearby bar Neo can’t resist. She sneaks out to see them, and she falls in love, with music, and the night, but also with a girl: Tale has a voice like coffee poured into a bright steel mug, and she commands the stage.

It isn’t normal. Isn’t right. Neo knows that she’s supposed to go to school and get a real job and find a nice young boy to settle down with. It’s written everywhere – in childhood games, and playground questions, in the textbooks, in her parents’ faces. But Tale and music are underneath her skin, and try as she might, she can’t stop thinking about them.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Kaleidoscope Song?

I’m fond of a lot within this book; the music and musicality of it, the queerness and a sense of queer community, some particular descriptions and scenes, but my very, very favourite, pure joy thing is probably Jeso, and his protective-little-brother relationship with Neo. He’s cute and wild and empathetic, and he notices and understands a whole lot more than people give him credit for. Which is often the way: adults could learn a thing or two about acceptance from the younger generation.

Book of Shadows
by M. Verano
Hardcover Giveaway
U.S. Only

Simon Pulse
Released 9/19/2017

All Melanie wants is a blank book to keep a journal of her private thoughts. One day while browsing in a used bookshop, she finds the perfect blank book—smooth black leather with strange symbols in gold embossing. But once she gets home, Melanie finds herself too intimidated by the heavy vellum pages to write her trivial thoughts on them. Her Wiccan friend Lara tells her it’s better suited to be a magical spell book, called The Book of Shadows.

Melanie doesn’t know much about that stuff, but Lara, her boyfriend Caleb, and his friend Lucas, get her started by writing their own made up spells inside the book’s tempting pages. What they didn’t expect was a new spell showing up inside the book—and in handwriting none of them recognize.

Soon they discover that the spells suggested by The Book of Shadows itself do work—but not without wreaking havoc on the lives of the four teenagers.

Unable to overcome the whole paralyzing-stage-fright thing, Victoria settles for living inside her fantasies, where nothing can go wrong and everything is set to her expertly crafted music playlists.

To do that, she must confront her insecurities and break away from the treadmill that is her life. Moxie
by Jennifer Mathieu
Hardcover
Roaring Brook Press
Released 9/19/2017

An unlikely teenager starts a feminist revolution at a small-town Texan high school in the new novel from Jennifer, author of The Truth About Alice.

MOXIE GIRLS FIGHT BACK!

Vivian Carter is fed up. Fed up with a school administration at her small-town Texas high school that thinks the football team can do no wrong. Fed up with sexist dress codes, hallway harassment, and gross comments from guys during class. But most of all, Viv Carter is fed up with always following the rules.

Viv's mom was a tough-as-nails, punk rock Riot Grrrl in the '90s, and now Viv takes a page from her mother's past and creates a feminist zine that she distributes anonymously to her classmates. She's just blowing off steam, but other girls respond. As Viv forges friendships with other young women across the divides of cliques and popularity rankings, she realizes that what she has started is nothing short of a girl revolution.

Moxie is a book about high school life that will make you wanna riot!

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Moxie?

My favorite thing about MOXIE...that's so hard to choose! I loved writing it. It was a very fun process to write that book. I listened to a lot of old feminist punk from my youth and had a lot of fun getting to know Vivian and the other Moxie girls. But I think my favorite thing about it is knowing that - or at least hoping that - the story gets into the hands of young women and gets them excited about feminism and gender equality. It's my hope that MOXIE functions in much the way that Riot Grrrl music functioned for me when I was young - as a sort of gateway drug to feminism!

Murder, Magic, and What We Wore
by Kelly Jones
Hardcover
Knopf Books for Young Readers
Released 9/19/2017

The year is 1818, the city is London, and 16-year-old Annis Whitworth has just learned that her father is dead and all his money is missing. And so, of course, she decides to become a spy.

Annis always suspected that her father was himself a spy, and following in his footsteps to unmask his killer makes perfect sense. Alas, it does not make sense to England’s current spymasters—not even when Annis reveals that she has the rare magical ability to sew glamours: garments that can disguise the wearer completely.

Well, if the spies are too pigheaded to take on a young woman of quality, then Annis will take them on. And so she crafts a new double life for herself. Miss Annis Whitworth will appear to live a quiet life in a country cottage with her aunt, and Annis-in-disguise as Madame Martine, glamour artist, will open a magical dressmaking shop. That way she can earn a living, maintain her social standing, and, in her spare time, follow the coded clues her father left behind and unmask his killer.

It can’t be any harder than navigating the London social season, can it?

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Murder, Magic, and What We Wore?

The characters! Annis is a sixteen-year-old girl who’s confident in her abilities (even when no one else is – and even when she has no reason to be!) It’s so much fun to write someone who sees the paths open to her, and instead tries to make new ones. Another great delight was asking other writers of Regency novels if I could give a glimpse of their characters within my book. Look for gossip about characters you might recognize, and check your findings with the list in the back!

Release
by Patrick Ness
Hardcover
HarperTeen
Released 9/19/2017

Inspired by Judy Blume’s Forever and Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, this novel by award-winning author Patrick Ness is a new classic about teenage relationships, self-acceptance—and what happens when the walls we build start coming down.

Adam Thorn doesn’t know it yet, but today will change his life.

Between his religious family, a deeply unpleasant ultimatum from his boss, and his own unrequited love for his sort-of ex, Enzo, it seems as though Adam’s life is falling apart. At least he has two people to keep him sane: his new boyfriend (he does love Linus, doesn’t he?) and his best friend, Angela.

But all day long, old memories and new heartaches come crashing together, throwing Adam’s life into chaos. The bindings of his world are coming untied one by one; yet in spite of everything he has to let go, he may also find freedom in the release.

From the New York Times-bestselling author of A Monster Calls comes a raw, darkly funny, and deeply affecting story about the courage it takes to live your truth.
