SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSF) - The Dakota Horizons chapter of Girl Scouts organized a Day of Play for the Sioux Falls community on Saturday, September 23rd at the Sanford Fieldhouse, in conjunction with Nickelodeon's Day of Play, to encourage kids to put down their devices and go outside to play!
Girls and boys participated in a afternoon of activities, including superhero obstacle course, face painting, golf, fishing, cheerleading, and many more events. Sanford Health also had their inflatable health to help kids learn about a healthy heart.
The free event was open to all kids, regardless of gender or age.
Healthy living is one of the pillars that the Girl Scouts instill in its members, according to Stacey Andernacht with Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons.
Wendy Lewis with Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons says this time of year is perfect for parents to get their kids involved with Girl Scouts. There will be an informational nights for parents at the council office located at 1101 South Marion Road in Sioux Falls on October 2 and 5 beginning at 6 p.m.

Worldwide Day of Play was created by Nickelodeon in conjunction with its “Let’s Just Play” campaign. The annual event is designed to encourage children and adults to turn off the television and play, especially outdoors.
Nickelodeon is showing their dedication to all things active and playful with the networks annual Worldwide Day of Play tour! This year Nick has made stops in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Kansas City, and San Juan (Puerto Rico), and will finish up at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on September 16th. The national events will eventually culminate in the Worldwide Day of Play on Sept. 30, when Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons and TeenNick will go dark to encourage kids to go outside and play.
