Door to Door

On this cold, cold day in Boston, where the ground is covered with deep snow, my mind wanders back to the warmth of Summer, on the streets of the little Medieval town of Vitorchiano, in central Italy. There, last July, in the heat of the afternoon, I travelled door-to-door around that walled city and collected door portraits. There, a houses' ground floor acts as a basement does in the US. In times past animals would live in the street level, along with storage, and the people lived above. I find the construction, decay and repair of the old entrances endlessly fascinating.

These sketches were created on a single page (as seen) and I made every effort to balance cohesion with differences. Unlike a single picture, a visual list creates opportunities of further description and comparison. Sometimes more is more.
