Macleod's Books in Vancouver
[T.K. Justin Ng in Vancouver] For this week, I wanted to share with you a video from my time in Vancouver. I have sketched Vancouver in the summer but I returned for Christmas this year to draw the city in the rain. Sketching in the winter definitely has it's difficulties and after doing two drawings outdoors, I decided to do visit the Macleod's Booksand draw Vancouver's most famous second-hand bookstore. The bookstore is absolutely covered with books to the point that the room seems to be made of books rather than of walls. Every inch of the store has it's own pile of books and the owner, Don, knows exactly where each book is without any sort of online catalogue. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of room for me to set up my chair so I had to stand for this drawing. Rather than doing the entire drawing on location, I decided it would be best to do the ink on-site while completing the drawing at home so that I wouldn't spill paint somewhere and damage the books - it is also quite tiring to drawing standing up since I kept having to rearrange my tools as I changed medium.
