One month in Florence with a pocket sketchbook (9)
[by Javier de Blas in Florence, Italy] Nov/25th-27th. Hercules and the Lion is a sculpture in bronze, in a nineteenth-century style, although I read that it was made about 1930. It is in Piazza Ognisanti, very near Piazza santa Maria Novella, where I start to sketch the facade of the church and then I realize the measurements are so exact that the best to do is to take a great lesson of its proportions. It is close to the engraving attelier Lármadillo, where there is a première of our friend Encarna's work.San Gimignano is a middle ages little town between Florence and Siena. You must try not to miss it if you are around. It is all really amazing, but, specially, the church of Santa Maria Assunta wich it is a real jewel.
