The first four-day sketch event we had on Feb 9-14

As you might have read the article on Drawing Attention March 2018 issue ( page 59,) at the timing of USK Executive board annual meeting held in Japan, we USK Japan members had opportunity to meet them in person and to have four-day sketch event in Chiba prefecture and in Tokyo. Thanks to host Professor Isami Kinoshita of Chiba University Graduate School of Horticulture, and the most hard worked person, Maria Ermilova, who strived so hard to make it happen, we were able to have special days! This was our first experience to have such consecutively lasting sketch event at our place ( although each session was rather short yet was so inspirational.) I wrote articles on Urban Sketchers Japan blog posts about this, so I rather post links here. I also want to thank those who participated the event. Some were local Matsudo residents and some came from quite far places.

Day 1

Richard Alomar is giving instruction in Iwase local community building.


In the drill, we made six or more quickly captured location drawings. each page must have following three things:
description of what you feel or what you recognize in words; partial detailed drawing; and roughly ( largely) captured location image.


After sketch drill, we returned and showed the result each other, discussed what it was like, or what we learn.

Day 2

Under Maria's instruction, preparation is going on. Peggy is sorting the sheets to hand out.


We lined up alongside the road and captured the view seen the opposite side, and closed the road, did the same to capture the other side of the view.



Day 3

We had panel discussion this day. After individual speech, Maria made visual record of the talk on the black board while Q and A discussion time.


And Naoko also made her visual record.


And I was just struggling to catch up what was saying?

Day 4

We went to Shinjuku-gyoen park. It was lovely sunny day.The location was too large to explore in two hours to sketch. This day we had no rule to sketch so everyone was able to draw as they wanted to. ( Atsuko reviewed the lesson that we learned from Richard, so she made quick and productive location mapping sketches.)
