Living on a Boat
I recently moved out so I thought it would be nice to show you around with my sketches.
I wanted to start with an exterior drawing of the sailboat. It is parked in a harbor so I set up my equipment by the road. It was quite foggy and there was a yellow glow on the entire scene even tho it was almost noon. Once I began, I realized that I wasn’t very interested in capturing this scene and so I skipped the ink and did a rougher watercolor painting instead.
The interior of the boat was what I really wanted to capture. I’ve drawn many other boats from the outside before so drawing the interior was quite a fresh subject. The boat is really small so it was quite cluttered and there was a lot of stuff all over the place. I had to bend the perspective to be able to capture enough of the space. There were a lot of details that I wanted to put into the drawing, everything from the furnace to the mechanical systems that are exposed.
I was drawing at night and the boat doesn’t have adequate lighting so I colored it the next day. The coloring was extremely fun in this drawing because the room is so colorful. I finished the drawing by adding a few written notes to remind myself of different things that have happened on board.
