HOSPITAL APPOINTMENT
[by Teo Cheng Huat in Singapore]Together with my sister and her daughter, we accompany my mother to the Tan Tock Seng hospital for her appointment. My mother is 80 years old and has a quite a long list of health issue and problems. Is a follow up appointment as well as to collect medicine for her to last for 3 months for the coming trip to Beijing. While waiting for her turn to see the doctor, I took off to visit the other levels and end off at the 2nd floor where the restaurant and cafes are located. Lot of patients mostly on wheelchair with their families and friends gather and queue for foods, ATM machine and gift shop. There is a large glass roof in the middle of the level and it is so cozy to sit here and enjoy the warm sun as the air conditioning in the hospital is so freezing cold. Took some time to sketch people walking , buying food and sharing conversation. Later, we went to the lower level to register and queue up for collection of her medicine. The dispensary department is operate by robotic arms machine, working tirelessly and pretty fast, receiving the prescription , pick up the medicine and put them in the allocated boxes on the shelving unit. The pharmacists then pass the medicine to the patients and give them instruction follow by paying the next counter. The medical appointment took 3 and a half hours and is time for dinner.
