What Is Democratic Socialism?
ByBEN SHAPIRO @BENSHAPIRO

The new rising star of the Democratic Party is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The 28-year-old former bartender doesn't know much about politics -- this week, she bungled her way through an interview answer by referring to Israeli "occupation" of Palestine and citing her lack of expertise on the issue despite her international relations degree. But she's young; she's energetic; and she speaks in glowing terms about rights to housing, food, college and health care. She's a charter member of the Democratic Socialists of America, a group, we're informed by The New York Times' Michelle Goldberg, that is on the rise. "Its growth has exploded since the 2016 election," Goldberg reports, "from 7,000 members to more than 37,000."
What exactly is democratic socialism, and what distinguishes it from socialism plain and simple? Ocasio-Cortez doesn't know. When asked about it by Meghan McCain on "The View," she stated that there is a "huge difference" between the two notions but then concluded, "I believe that in a moral and wealthy America, in a moral and modern America, no person should be too poor to live in this country." Which doesn't explain the difference at all.
The difference is truly between socialism and social democracy. Socialism suggests state ownership and control of all major resources -- and generally ends with the complete collapse and destruction of the productive population. Social democracy suggests redistribution of capitalistic gains -- more like Denmark or Norway or Sweden. It's unclear where Ocasio-Cortez lies on this spectrum considering that the DSA openly acknowledges its desire to abolish capitalism.
But let's assume that what Ocasio-Cortez and Democrats want is actually just European-style social democracy. If that's the case, they're still misreading the tea leaves: The Nordic countries aren't thriving and healthy because they're socialist; they're thriving and healthy because they are small and homogenous. In fact, Nordic lifestyles means that Nordic life expectancy outclassed life expectancy in the United States before the Nordic states tried to grow government redistributionism radically. The left is fond of citing Norway and Sweden -- even though both are now moving in a politically right-wing direction -- but neglecting Switzerland, which is just as successful and far less socialistic.
Furthermore, generous welfare policies can only operate in small, homogenous countries because if you open the borders to such countries, immigrants flood in and then sink the boat. That's why voters in Europe have been consistently moving toward a more restrictionist view of immigration -- particularly in that bastion of social democracy, Sweden.
Yet the democratic socialist dream never dies, even as it fades away in Europe. Democrats will continue to point toward the Nordic states and claim that utopia is a mere "free lunch" program away. But lunch is never free, as a former bartender should know.

Chuck Schumer Is Running For His Life After Making His Biggest Mistake Ever

President Trump’s press conference with Vladimir Putin made headlines across the globe.

Democrats and some establishment Republicans were infuriated.

But Chuck Schumer took it too far and made the biggest mistake of his life.

President Trump enraged establishment media pundits and swamp politicians in both parties by questioning the official story about the hacking of the Democrat National Committee.

Trump wondered why the Democrats wouldn’t allow the FBI to examine the DNC’s server to prove the Russians hacked the email accounts belonging to the national party.

The President declared, “My people came to me, Dan Coates, came to me and some others they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia.”

“I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. But I really do want to see the server but I have, I have confidence in both parties.”

“I really believe that this will probably go on for a while but I don’t think it can go on without finding out what happened to the server. What happened to the servers of the Pakistani gentleman that worked on the DNC?”

“Where are those servers? They’re missing. Where are they? What happened to Hillary Clinton’s emails? 33,000 emails gone, just gone. I think in Russia they wouldn’t be gone so easily.”

Liberals – and many Never Trump Republicans – flew off the handle.

So-called “journalists” slammed the President’s comments as “disgraceful.”

But Chuck Schumer takes the cake.

The Democrat Minority Leader jumped on social media and tweeted out that the only explanation for Trump’s comments was because the Russians were holding compromising information on the President.

Schumer tweeted:

“A SINGLE, OMINOUS QUESTION NOW HANGS OVER THE WHITE HOUSE: WHAT COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE @REALDONALDTRUMP TO PUT THE INTERESTS OF RUSSIA OVER THOSE OF THE UNITED STATES.

MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL CONTINUE TO WONDER IF THE ONLY POSSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR THIS DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT PRESIDENT PUTIN HOLDS DAMAGING INFORMATION OVER PRESIDENT TRUMP.”

Schumer was alluding to the fake news in the Christopher Steele “golden showers” dossier.

The conspiracy theory has run wild on the left and in the media since January 2017.

Schumer is the highest profile official to embrace this baseless conspiracy theory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed this question in the press conference with President Trump.

Putin dismissed the question as nonsense and stated that the idea that his internal security service spied on Trump during his 2013 trip to Moscow to gain leverage over him in a future political campaign was ridiculous.

The Russian President initially dismissed the Steele dossier as preposterous.

“I’d like to add something to this. After all, I was an intelligence officer myself and I do know how dossiers are made up,” Putin answered.

Putin then addressed the allegations that his government possessed compromising information on Trump.

“President Trump visited Moscow back then I didn’t even know that he was in Moscow. I treat President Trump with utmost respect. But back then, when he was a private individual, a businessman, nobody informed me that he was in Moscow,” Putin stated.

Chuck Schumer accusing the President of being a Russian agent is outrageous.

While the media scrutinizes every Trump statement and tweet in order to “fact check” him – and the fact-checkers are nothing more than Democrat partisans who launder liberal talking points into the press under the guise of nonpartisan truth squads – no outlet fact-checked Schumer for his baseless claim.

But the media can’t sweep this libelous attack on the President under the rug.

Millions of Americans are fed up with the left continually working hand over fist to undermine the President with conspiracy theories and witch hunts.

SAVED FROM SOCIALISM: U.S. Saves Baby Oliver After U.K. Doctors Said His Heart Couldn’t Be Fixed

By AMANDA PRESTIGIACOMO @AMANDAPRESTO

Screenshot: 5 News

After baby Oliver Cameron was denied necessary medical treatment and funding by the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS), doctors in the United States were able to save his life.

Baby Oliver was born with a rare heart condition known as cardiac fibroma. The socialized healthcare system in the U.K. was not equipped to perform the necessary surgery to remove the non-cancerous tumor in his heart. Oliver would have to be put on a list to receive a heart transplant, and even then, he would only be expected to live to the age of 15, at the longest.

But due to the innovation and ingenuity of the United States, the necessary surgery was not only available, but had a 100% success rate at the Boston Children's Hospital.

The NHS, however, initially refused to pay for the roughly $260,000 parents Lydia and Tim Cameron needed to fund the trip and procedure required to save their baby.

"No parent should have to bury their child," Lydia said at the time, according to The Mirror. "For the NHS to say, 'we’re sorry, we can’t help.' is devastating."

"We asked if the NHS could fly the surgeon over here, but he’s not licensed to operate in the UK," she explained. "We asked if an English surgeon could learn the procedure, but they said no. So we must raise the money ourselves."

"Our NHS consultant has said if Boston agreed to treat Oliver then we had to get him there."

The couple did not have the funds to save Oliver, so they resorted to crowdfunding, opening a GoFundMe page and asking the public to donate.

After funding nearly $170,000 on their own and garnering international attention, the NHS's hand was forced. The government finally announced that they would allow and fund the necessary surgery at Boston Children's Hospital.

Professor Dominic Wilkinson at the Oxford Centre for Neuroethics said that the pressure was on the NHS to comply due to the recent case of U.K.-based baby Charlie Guard, who was denied medical treatment by the NHS despite other nations offering treatment. "I think the intense attention from the Charlie Gard case is likely to make those decision makers more conscious that they are under greater scrutiny and therefore that they have to be particularly careful in making a fair decision," he told The Telegraph.

Thankfully, Boston Children's Hospital was able to perform a successful surgery on 10-month-old baby Oliver in November of 2017. "When they told us Dr. del Nido had removed all of it, we were so happy we just burst into tears," said mother Lydia, according to the hospital's site.

Baby Oliver was saved from the pitfalls of socialism, treated by the brilliant surgeons in the U.S. and is thriving today.

On Tuesday, The Daily Wire's Michael Knowles discussed how capitalism saved baby Oliver.

LIBERAL GROUP BEHIND KAVANAUGH RESISTANCE IS HIDING ITS FUNDING
Kevin Daley | Supreme Court Reporter

  • Republican advocacy groups have outpaced liberal efforts on judicial confirmations.
  • A recently-formed liberal group, Demand Justice, seeks to change that trend by opposing Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • But Demand Justice’s organizational structure makes it difficult to determine the groups funding sources.
A left-leaning advocacy group, which plans to spend millions opposing Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, has obscured its funding sources through an opaque organizational structure.
Conservatives have dramatically outpaced liberal efforts on judicial confirmations in recent years, dominating the fundraising and communications space around Supreme Court nominations.
But a handful of Democratic operatives have formed a new progressive political outfit that hopes to close the right’s competitive advantage. Former Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon leads the operation, called Demand Justice, with support from alumni of the Clinton presidential campaign and former President Barack Obama’s administration.
The organization plans to spend millions opposing Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Demand Justice already emulates its conservative counterparts in at least one significant respect: The group’s organizational structure fully obscures the sources of its financial support, a Daily Caller News Foundation review has found.
Demand Justice Is A Layered Financial Network, Not An Independent Group
Demand Justice is not an independent organization. Rather, it is fiscally sponsored by a nonprofit called the Sixteen Thirty Fund.
Identifying fiscal sponsorship is sometimes difficult, as the status is established for different reasons and takes different forms. There is no category in the tax code for fiscal sponsorship, nor do sponsored projects need to be reported to the IRS.
There are two general categories of fiscal sponsorship, according to GuideStar Director of Data Services, Holly Ivel. In the first instance, a nonprofit can provide administrative and financial assistance to a new project until it can operate independently.
In the alternative, a nonprofit can provide a legal and logistical home for a project that will never be viable on its own.
It is not clear which category Demand Justice fits into, as the Sixteen Thirty Fund only recently registered the Demand Justice trade name with the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Indeed, it’s not clear that any organization Sixteen Thirty serves has ever spun off on its own.
Most Sixteen Thirty trade names registered with the regulatory agency were established in early 2018, suggesting that they are still some distance from full autonomy.
The Sixteen Thirty Fund is bankrolled by a handful of supporters, one of which is George Soros’ Open Society Policy Center, TheDCNF previously reported. Between 2014 and 2016, less than five contributors accounted for 57 to 70 percent of its donations.
The Sixteen Thirty Fund is administered by a consultancy called Arabella Advisors, which provides “strategic guidance for effective philanthropy,” according to its website.
Sixteen Thirty’s most recent publicly available tax forms, indicate it outsources a significant portion of its management services and operational support to Arabella. In 2016, the consultancy claimed almost $800,000 in fees for work on behalf of Sixteen Thirty.
Both groups also have the same principal officer. Eric Kessler, a former White House aide to President Bill Clinton, serves as senior managing director of Arabella and as president of Sixteen Thirty. Both groups have the same Washington, D.C. address. (RELATED: Supreme Court Poised For Rightward Shift Under Kavanaugh)
The approach appears typical of the firm’s approach to such initiatives. Kessler told Worth magazine in 2017 that Arabella often assumes core management functions for its client charities.
“First and foremost, we support family philanthropists, family foundations, by providing staffing,” Kessler said. “What that means is, there’s a whole bunch of foundations with assets between about $30 million and $300 million whose address is my office. We are their executive director, their program officer, their grant manager.”
Arabella Advisors was among a dozen left-leaning organizations Russian hackers targeted in March 2017. The firm received ransom demands after cyber criminals mined the emails of its 150 employees for embarrassing secrets.
“Arabella Advisors was affected by cyber crime,” Arabella spokesman Steve Sampson told Bloomberg News. “All facts indicate this was financially motivated.”
Identifying Demand Justice’s Donors Is Practically Impossible
The layered structure of this framework — with Arabella running Sixteen Thirty, which runs Demand Justice — makes it difficult to identify individual donors supporting the new outfit.
As a 501(c)(4), Sixteen Thirty may redact the names and address of contributors when it releases its tax forms to the public. Consequently, discovering the source of donations can be difficult.
Though Sixteen Thirty must provide a general overview of its grant-giving on tax forms, spending for the current financial year will not be available until after 2020. Even when that information is made public, Sixteen Thirty would not be required to disclose how much it appropriates for every project is sponsors.
Open Secrets researchers noted that this framework “makes it virtually impossible to determine who funds the group and how that money is being spent.”
Brendan Fischer, director of the Campaign Legal Center’s federal reform program, agreed with that analysis.
“It is not entirely uncommon for a 501(c)(4) to act as a fiscal sponsor for another organization, but it is unusual that a group planning to spend millions influencing politics would be structured in this way,” he told TheDCNF. “As the Center for Responsive Politics documented, this arrangement allows Demand Justice to dodge even the minimal reporting obligations required for a 501(c)(4).”
Federal Communications Commission records provide some sense of Demand Justice’s spending.
For example, the group spent at least $21,000 on television advertising in the Washington, D.C. market on July 15. Demand Justice also financed a four day-spot on Indiana stations supporting Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly, who is under intense pressure to support Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Donnelly is one of several Democratic senators standing for reelection this November in states President Donald Trump carried comfortably in 2016.
Demand Justice plans to spend $5 million opposing Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

New Polls Have Some Painful Numbers For Hillary
By JAMES BARRETT

Rasmussen's recent surveys of Likely U.S. Voters could almost be accused of going out of their way to give Hillary Clinton a bunch of unwelcome numbers. Not only do Likely Democratic Voters overwhelmingly want a "fresh face" to run for president in 2020, a plurality now believe that the once-popular Clinton did more harm than good to the party. And despite all the bad press directed at Donald Trump, among all likely voters, a plurality do not believe that the country would be better off if Hillary had won.
After learning that nearly three-quarters (73%) of likely Democratic voters don't want anyone who already ran for president to run in 2020, Rasmussen asked specifically about Hillary's impact on the Democratic Party. The numbers weren't good.
While Clinton was widely popular among Democrats back in 2015, that popularity has plummeted. Now a plurality of Democrats believe Hillary has been bad for the party overall: "33% think she’s been good for their party, but 39% believe she’s been bad for it instead," Rasmussen reports.
And the numbers are far worse among Republicans and Independents: "Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans and, more worrisome for Democrats, 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party feel Clinton has been bad for the party."
Rasmussen notes that even among the one-third of Democrats who say Clinton's been good for the party, a strong majority (62%) don't want her to run again.
Among all Likely Voters, 58% say Clinton has been bad for Democrats, with only 22% saying she's been good and 12% maintaining that she's had no impact.
Clinton has also apparently lost female voters, among whom an even stronger majority than men want a new candidate for the Democrats in 2020.
Then there's Rasmussen's recent findings on what voters think a Clinton presidency would have meant for the country: Only 40% of all likely voters believe the country would be better off today if Clinton had defeated Trump in 2016, while 47% disagree and 13% are undecided.

Dems, Left Wing Media Claim Russian Hacking an ‘Act of War’

President Donald Trump’s refusal to rehash allegations of Kremlin-backed interference in the 2016 presidential election during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday incensed Democrat lawmakers and left wing media pundits.
Standing alongside Putin, President Trump steered clear of confrontation with the Russian, while questioning U.S. intelligence and last week’s federal indictments of 12 Russians for hacking into Democratic email accounts to purportedly hurt Hillary Clinton in 2016.“I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” President Trump said following a two hour one-on-one meeting with his Russian counterpart. “He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be.”
President Trump’s remarks prompted an onslaught of calls for the U.S. to respond to Russia’s alleged meddling, described as an “act of war.”
Leading up to the high stakes meeting between President Trump and Putin, CNN New Day host Chris Cuomo repeatedly accused Russia of “election hacking” to wage war against the U.S. “The big, ugly white elephant in the room will be the U.S. election hacking,” Cuomo speculated. “We’ve been calling it meddling, but I’m trying to stay away from the word because it’s just way too mild. This is an act of war.”
The CNN host described the Russian hacking allegations as “the truth”: “How does [Donald Trump] raise the act of war of the hacking and different attacks during the U.S. election when Vladimir Putin knows damn well that President Trump doesn’t really believe the truth and doesn’t put a whole lot of stock in the event itself?”
HuffPo’s Mike Signorile published an opinion-editorial on Monday morning affirming Russia committed an “act of war,” while accusing President Trump of refusing to discuss the allegations of meddling with the Russian President.
“You don’t have to believe there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to see this clearly: When Vladimir Putin and his top military intelligence officers facilitated the hacking of the computer systems of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign, they engaged in an act of war against the United States,” Signorile writes. “And that’s what Republicans would be calling it ― war ― if they weren’t in the tank with President Donald Trump, who, instead of strongly condemning Russia, is cozying up to Putin and is infuriated that he and his campaign are under investigation for colluding with Russia and obstructing the probe.”
Echoing Signorile’s hyperbolic analysis, MarketWatch columnist Rex Nutting on Tuesday wrote “Russia’s ongoing attack on our democracy amounts to an act of war,” and criticized President Trump for offering up warm praise for Putin.
The MarketWatch columnist wrote:
Russia’s ongoing attack on our democracy amounts to an act of war. But instead of confronting Russian President Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference in Finland on Monday, Donald Trump praised him. Instead of standing up to Putin, Trump stood by him. By his actions, Trump is violating his oath, in which he “solemnly swore” to not only “faithfully execute” his duties as president and commander in chief of the armed forces, but also to “preserve, protect and defend” the Constitution.
Politico joined HuffPo and MarketWatch in publishing its own analysis of the Helsinki summit, yet again lamenting President Trump’s decision to repair U.S. relations with Russia instead of relitigating Putin’s “act of war,” during the 2016 election.
foreign policy experts Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling and Molly McKew wrote:
Members of the House and Senate have been briefed, but remain deadlocked in partisan bickering. Some in the House have spent more time investigating the investigators than they have in trying to hold Russia accountable. Trump’s suggestion to accept Russian investigators into this process adds a new layer to the sideshow. When right of the boom feels like left of the boom, it’s easy to miss the fact that what the Kremlin did—is doing—was, and is, an act of war.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told MSNBC’s Morning Joe, ahead of the Trump-Putin showdown, that the U.S. faces a continuing act of war by Vladimir Putin.” The Democrat lawmaker said:
I can recall vividly John McCain and I in one Armed Services Committee after another at hearings with our cyber experts saying to them, under the [Barack] Obama administration as well as this administration, why has there been no definition of an act of war in cyber, because we have been attacked. It is an act of war.
DNC chairman Tom Perez told CNN’s Natalie Allen Monday that he believes Russian interference constitutes an “act of war,” and yet, it was not pressing enough for the party to turn over its servers for inspection to the FBI.
“President Trump suggests there was some nefarious reason the DNC didn’t turn over its computer servers after the hacking was discovered, and in fact in January 2017 the FBI said the DNC had rebuffed its request to examine computer servers. Have you since then given the FBI or special counsel investigators access?” the CNN host asked the embattled party leader.
The DNC chair not only dodged the question but shifted into talking point mode, accusing the Russians of committing an “act of war” by meddling in the 2016 elections. Perez claimed:
The DNC cooperated throughout. And the matter at hand is that the Russians, they not only hacked the DNC, they hacked the (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee), they attempted to infiltrate secretaries of state, and boards of elections.” “They were successful in one state getting … roughly a half a million individual names and personal information,” Perez added. “And they did this so that they could attempt to swing our elections. That is an act of war, and if we had a Democrat in the White House right now, we would have a cabinet that’s dealing with this.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) made similar remarks to his Democrat colleague Sen. Blumenthal on Tuesday, asserting to Hill. TV hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton that Russian interference in the 2016 election embodied an “act of war,” even going as far as to equate the Kremlin’s acts to an invasion of U.S. territory. Cohen said:
It was a foreign interference with our basic Democratic values. The underpinnings of Democratic society is elections, and free elections, and they invaded our country. A cyber attack that made Russian society valueless. They could have gone into Russian banks, Russian government. Our cyber abilities are such that we could have attacked them with a cyber attack that would have crippled Russia.
Hollywood actor-director Rob Reiner, whose new film Shock and Awe grossed a mere $41,000 on its opening weekend, declared Tuesday that the United States was attacked by Russia in the last election.
The United States was attacked. We didn’t see bombs hitting Pearl Harbor. We didn’t see planes crash into buildings. But cyber missiles struck the heart of our Democracy. It was an insidious Act of War. Anyone who aids and abets this is committing Treason.
“We didn’t see bombs hitting Pearl Harbor. We didn’t see planes crash into buildings. But cyber missiles struck the heart of our Democracy,” tweeted Reiner. “It was an insidious Act of War. Anyone who aids and abets this is committing Treason.”
President Donald Trump sought Tuesday to “clarify” his public undermining of American intelligence agencies, saying he had misspoken when he said he saw no reason to believe Russia had interfered in the 2016 U.S. election.
“The sentence should have been, ’I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t, or why it wouldn’t be Russia” instead of “why it would,” Trump said, in a rare admission of error by the bombastic U.S. leader. His comment came — amid rising rebuke by his own party — about 27 hours after his original, widely reported statement, which he made at a Monday summit in Helsinki standing alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I accept our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place,” Trump said Tuesday. But he added, as he usually does, “It could be other people also. A lot of people out there. There was no collusion at all.”

Most Fiscally Irresponsible President Ever Proposes to Bankrupt Country Faster

Okay, made that one up, too: Barack Obama signals support for a universal basic income

Former President Barack Obama came out in support of an economic policy that is far to the left of anything being proposed by most sitting U.S. politicians.

While delivering remarks Tuesday at the 16th annual Nelson Mandela Lecture in Johannesburg, Obama appeared to endorse the idea of creating a universal basic income, the policy where the government grants citizens a minimum annual income to live on.

"Universal basic income" would extend welfare to everyone.

The massive expansion of the welfare state has been a disaster for America's poorest citizens.

It has promoted the destruction of the two-parent family, by encouraging women to give birth without a father in the home. The various welfare programs have provided perverse incentives to poor females to have more children, usually without a father present.

And growing up without a male father figure correlates directly to crime, poor educational outcomes, and prison.

A universal basic income will extend the same perverse incentives to a wider group, thereby growing America's culture of dependency.

You don't have to believe me. Read the research.

Never mind that the Chicago is the brokest-ass city in America and is driving its most successful residents away with an endless series of tax hikes.

Never mind that America is $21 trillion in debt, an amount that defies any rational explanation for repayment.

Never mind all that: this is yet another lurch left for the Neo-Communist (i.e., Democrat) Party that aims to grow dependency in order to enslave its weakest constituents.
G’ day…Ciao…
