San Francisco Bay from the Oakland Hills
[By Marcia Milner-Brage, visiting Oakland, California]Both my adult children have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area over the years. Until a few months ago, they've always lived on The Peninsula (the west side of The Bay), in Palo Alto or Pacifica. My daughter and her husband recently purchased their first home there. It's in San Leandro, which is on the east side of The Bay.
Being a dutiful parent (or perhaps an opportunistic one), I never miss a reason for a trip. In early September, after getting a green light from them, we went to visit. My husband and I stayed in a vacation rental in the Oakland Hills, a few minutes from their house. We were afforded sweeping views across the flatland of the East Bay, the San Francisco Bay, and The Peninsula beyond. Above, a morning view, unusually clear.
In the past, I traveled with more traditional drawing supplies–several sketchbooks of varying size and paper, a handful of pencils, a stick eraser, watercolors, and wax pastels. This trip, I took only my iPad, my pocket-size Moleskine, a couple pencils and a stick eraser. These two panoramas were done on my iPad with Procreate.
