Trump Calls Out Feinstein and Democrats for Obstruction: ‘TAKE THE VOTE!’
By Jack Davis

With Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats appearing to be in lockstep against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump said Friday there is no need for them to delay voting on Kavanaugh any longer.
Kavanaugh’s nomination was supposed to have been voted on by the committee on Thursday, but that vote was scrapped in the aftermath of Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation that Kavanaugh acted in a sexually inappropriate manner during a 1980s party when both were in high school. Kavanaugh has strongly denied the incident ever happened.
While the committee, chaired by Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, has been working to set up a hearing during which Ford can speak directly to the senators, committee Democrats have been demanding that the FBI be called in to investigate the 35-year-old allegations and that any vote on the nomination be delayed until after that investigation is complete.
The FBI has indicated it has no plans to investigate the allegation.
Trump on Friday said the stalling had gone on long enough.
“Senator Feinstein and the Democrats held the letter for months, only to release it with a bang after the hearings were OVER – done very purposefully to Obstruct & Resist & Delay. Let her testify, or not, and TAKE THE VOTE!” Trump tweeted.

Trump’s tweets mirror comments he made to Sean Hannity of Fox News on Thursday night.
The president said Kavanaugh is “an outstanding person” who deserves to have his nomination voted upon.
“I don’t think you can delay it any longer,” Trump said.
Trump said Ford should “have her say and let’s see how it all works out.”
He also, on Friday, tweeted that the incident appears to be getting more attention now than at the time it could have been investigated.
“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents,” Trump tweeted. “I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”

One of Trump’s tweets on the nomination made it clear he views the attacks against Kavanaugh as politically motivated.
“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don’t matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C.,” he tweeted.

On Thursday, Ford appeared to open the door for some sort of hearing next week, but the details remained uncertain on Friday.
Judiciary Committee majority spokesman Taylor Foy said Grassley “will consult with his colleagues on the committee. He remains committed to providing a fair forum for both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh.”

Ex-police detective running prostitution ring reveals devastating corruption in NYPD

A retired police detective allegedly ran a prostitution ring in New York City for nearly 18 years before he was caught, marking one of the most marked corruption NYPD scandals in recent history.
Authorities say they discovered 51-year-old Ludwig Paz, a former police detective who retired in 2010, successfully ran at least seven brothels in New York City for years without discovery. Paz previously had a clean record and did not entertain engaging in any criminal activity until he began suffering significant financial difficulties in 2008, The New York Times reported Friday.
In 2008, Paz had more than $690,000 in debt, and earned only $120,000 on his police salary, according to The NYT.
The former detective, arrested for operating a massive prostitution ring, remained in the dark for years by collecting a crew of trustee police officers working under his wing and tipping him off about planned raids ahead of time. Records indicate that Paz ran multiple brothels along with “pop-ups” in Brooklyn and Queens, making billions of dollars through his criminal activities.
Paz recruited at least seven police officers in order to keep his activities off the radar. “Because of his familiarity with the tools of the trade and vice — and how to investigate these kind of enterprises — he kind of became expert,” according to an anonymous law enforcement official. “He figured, wow, he can make a lot of money.”
Following Paz’s arrest at J.F.K. International Airport, authorities put three sergeants, two detectives and two officers in handcuffs for their involvement with the prostitution activities. Twenty-six civilians were also arrested, and the authorities are looking for at least 13 more.
Giovanny Rojas-Acosta, Carlos Cruz, Cliff Nieves and Rene Samaniego are among those arrested.
Paz relied on his doorman, bagmen and legmen among others to secure his activities would be kept in the dark. Paz recruited seven police officers that he’d met during his time in the NYPD. The men divulged to Paz the identities of undercover officers and tipped him off about upcoming raids.
Men who arrived for services from a prostitute were required to allow themselves to be groped in order to identify undercover officers who are not permitted to submit themselves to any kind of interaction with a prostitute.
Fifteen minute sessions cost $40, and customers paid $160 for an hour.
An anonymous worker who noticed suspicious activity told NYT that the activity was obvious. “These guys were pretty blatant. You’d see a half dozen guys coming and going at the same time.”
A building tenant near one of the brothels reported the activities to the police in January 2017, but the authorities didn’t take any action until September 2017 by which time Paz had been tipped off about an upcoming raid and moved the brothel’s location. Another man repeatedly called the police through August 2017 to report the brothel, but nothing happened.
Despite its apparent inaction in 2017, however, the police department began investigating the prostitution in 2015 after an anonymous cop sent a telephone tip to the Internal Affairs Bureau. Many credit the “blue wall of silence” — an unspoken code whereby officers don’t divulge the misdeeds of their colleagues — for Paz’s ability to evade detection.
The code originated in New York and is generally defined as, “A rule among police officers not to report on another officer’s errors, misconducts, and or crimes when questioned about an incident of misconduct involving another colleague, during a course of an inquiry.”
Paz is being held on $325,000 cash bail and currently sits in protective custody in jail.

Connecticut Senate rejects bill making female genital mutilation a felony

 BY ROBERT SPENCER

This is a major setback for human rights in general and women’s rights in particular, and the only coverage is in a letter to the editor. And so we don’t know why the Connecticut Senate rejected this bill, but it is likely that it was lobbied by certain constituencies that argued that it would be “Islamophobic.” FGM is mandated in Islamic law: “Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh ‘female circumcision’]).” — Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64

Why is it obligatory? Because Muhammad is held to have said so: “Abu al- Malih ibn Usama’s father relates that the Prophet said: ‘Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women.’” — Ahmad Ibn Hanbal 5:75

“Narrated Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: ‘Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.’” — Abu Dawud 41:5251

That hadith is classified as weak, but this one is classified as sahih (reliable): “Aishah narrated: ‘When the circumcised meets the circumcised, then indeed Ghusl is required. Myself and Allah’s Messenger did that, so we performed Ghusl.’” — Jami` at-Tirmidhi 108

If Muhammad had the genitals of his favorite wife, Aisha, mutilated, that is a strong endorsement of the practice from the man who is an “excellent example” (Qur’an 33:21) for Muslims.

“A Law Against Female Genital Mutilation,” by Kristine Cheruk, Hartford Courant Letters to the Editor, August 13, 2018 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):

An important bill died in the legislature this year, “An Act Prohibiting Female Genital Mutilation.” Senate Bill 190 would have made it a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, to perform female genital mutilation on a person under 18.

FGM is outlawed federally, and 26 other states in the United States also ban it. Connecticut needs to join them to put this terrible practice on the radar of schools, clinics, courts and police. Connecticut lawmakers need a zero-tolerance law banning FGM to protect young women and girls.

FGM is a barbaric procedure, affecting up to 140 million women and girls worldwide. Alarmingly, the Population Reference Bureau indicates that 2,658 women and girls are at risk in Connecticut.

FGM is a human rights violation and a terrible crime against girls and women. The time is now to prevent FGM and stand with victims.

Chinese Catholics 'pray for the best' but wary after Vatican deal

Across China there was a mixed reaction to what some call a compromise by the Holy See and a betrayal of Vatican loyalists (AFP Photo/Nicolas ASFOURI)

Beijing (AFP) - Chinese Catholics have mixed feelings about the Vatican's landmark deal with Beijing: Some in the unofficial "underground" church remain suspicious of the government while others "pray for the best".
As parishioners in the capital's Catholic cathedral gathered to celebrate
mass on Saturday evening, still others in the pews were unaware of the historic deal aimed at resolving a decades-old dispute over who gets to name bishops.

After the provisional agreement was announced by both sides, the Vatican said Pope Francis recognised seven clergy appointed by the Chinese
Communist government -- a move that could lead to a rapprochement for the first time since diplomatic ties were severed in 1951.

Yet across the country, there was a mixed reaction to what some call a compromise by the Holy See and a betrayal of Vatican loyalists.

Catholics recognise the pope as the head of the church, with the appointment of bishops requiring a nod from the Holy See -- while China's officially atheist government does not tolerate any other power centre and insists on appointing its own bishops.

This split the country's roughly 12 million Catholics between the state-sanctioned church -- which includes the government in its Prayer of The Faithful during mass -- and the underground church which sees the Vatican as the ultimate authority.

At the official South Cathedral in the heart of Beijing, worshippers seemed unaware of the landmark agreement.

Mass celebrated the baptism of 80 new believers, with bishop Joseph Li -- sanctioned by both the Vatican and Beijing -- delivering a homily touching on the theme of loyalty and faith.

After being told the news by an AFP reporter, many were nonchalant.

"Whatever this means for the church is up to God. As a follower of the church, we pray for the best," said a churchgoer who gave her name only as Magdalene.

Others hoped that government and religion could have their separate spaces.

"Our religion should worship God and support the government's sovereignty, but our church should stay apart from the government," Paul Yu told AFP after mass.

There were similar scenes in Shanghai where worshippers said they had not heard of the deal.

But those with links to the unofficial church say it appears the Vatican is making concessions to China in hope of better relations, which could be a futile effort because Beijing is unlikely to go along with it in the long term.

"Maybe this agreement solves the problem of the seven bishops," said a priest with ties to the underground church.

"But in terms of choosing bishops in the future, it does not resolve the fundamental problem... and it cannot help improve the situation of the church."

While the clergy is appointed by the Communist Party, the Vatican has previously accepted several bishops appointed by the government.

A priest from an underground church in the central Hebei province said the congregation has always been loyal to the Vatican and will continue to be.

"There are some church members and priests that accept this turn in events, and some that cannot completely come to terms (with the situation), because they remain suspicious of the Communist Party," said the priest, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"They doubt the government's sincerity," he said, noting that some members of his church work for the authorities as "spies".

Yale Study Finds There Could Be Twice as Many Illegal Immigrants as What You’re Being Told
BY BENJAMIN ARIE
Before any problem can be solved, it has to be understood.
A doctor can’t treat a sick patient without having a pretty good idea of what is wrong, and how bad the situation is.
An engineer can’t repair a broken machine without knowing what went wrong in the first place, and understanding what needs to be changed.
Countless politicians on both sides of the political aisle have tossed around ideas for how to deal with America’s illegal immigration problem. The left wants to shrug off the negatives and give aliens driver’s licenses — and then let them vote, of course.
The right wants to keep immigration controlled, and welcome good people who are honest while limiting the number of lawbreakers pouring across the border.
All of the different proposals are based on rough estimates of how many immigrants are already in America … but what if those past estimates were very, very wrong?
That’s the question that researchers at Yale University are now asking.
On Friday, a detailed study about U.S. immigration was released, and its conclusions are challenging past assumptions about immigration numbers.
Shockingly, researchers found that the accepted number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. — 11.3 million — may be extremely low. The actual number of aliens in America could be twice that amount.

“At the center (of the debate) lies a fairly stable and largely unquestioned number: 11.3 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S.,” explained Yale Insights.
“But a paper by three Yale-affiliated researchers suggests … the actual population of undocumented immigrants residing in the country is much larger than that, perhaps twice as high, and has been underestimated for decades,” the Yale publication continued.
Researchers poured over the available data like deportations and visa overstays, and used mathematical modeling to consider how many illegal immigrants have actually entered the country. This has historically been hard to pin down, since those migrants are, well, undocumented.“(R)esearchers estimate there are 22.1 million undocumented immigrants in the United States,” Yale Insights reported.
That’s the mean number, meaning it could be a bit less or even more than that level. But even when they made their models very strict, the estimated number of aliens was several million higher than previously thought.
“Even using parameters intentionally aimed at producing an extremely conservative estimate, they found a population of 16.7 million undocumented immigrants,” stated the report.
It’s interesting to note that the researchers went into the study expecting to discover that the oft-cited 11.3 million number was actually high. They found the opposite.
“Our original idea was just to do a sanity check on the existing number,” said Professor Edward Kaplan of the Yale School of Management. “Instead of a number which was smaller, we got a number that was 50% higher. That caused us to scratch our heads.”
The researchers were quick to point out that they do not believe there was a sudden surge of border crossers which boosted the number. Instead, they think that the real number of illegal immigrants has been under-reported for a very long time.
“It’s really something that happened in the past and maybe was not properly counted or documented,” explained Professor Jonathan Feinstein.
The Yale researchers were careful to deal with statistics and not politics, but it’s worth asking whether the real number of illegal immigrants was purposely kept under wraps for so many years because it flies in the face of past liberal promises.
After all, it was Democrat “hero” Ted Kennedy who pledged in 1965: “Our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.”
Instead, immigration surged, and that’s without even factoring in the illegal aliens who may have been dramatically under-counted for decades.
It’s time to take a long, hard look at the real immigration issues facing America. Before anything can be fixed, we need to tell the truth about the problem … and that starts with actually having honest numbers about how many people have crossed the border and never left.
