Selfie Sketch (Ad Infinitum)

[By Róisín Curé in Galway] There's a new cinema in town. It had a very difficult birth, and the building programme was stalled many times, but it's done. And it's great. Yesterday I took a young student of mine to see a movie there, as she's studying Spanish for her final exams and there was a Spanish movie on.

Afterwards, I hung around to watch a second movie. It was in Portuguese and I am very serious about trying to improve my faltering progress in the language. While I waited, I had a quick bowl of seafood chowder in the restaurant (best I've ever had, and that's saying a lot) and a sketch. The only thing that interested me was my reflection far off at the other end of the room, which wasn't far at all, but was clad in floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The infinity effect was very cool and I wish I had captured what I wanted a bit better. The fact is I broke one of my big rules, which is to calmly think for a few minutes before I start. I guess I felt pressurised to get to the movie (shouldn't have bothered, it was so bleak). But I really enjoyed the sketch and I will do more of this kind of thing!
