Join Oliver at Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco, USA to hone your design-on-the-fly skills!
Often we see things that appeal to us – a statue, a button, a watch, stuff on display – but we don’t sketch them because they seem like a weak motif.
In this workshop you will learn 10 tools to combine disparate elements into an interesting spread that tells your story of the place. Don’t be stuck with one viewpoint, but mix and match what interests you!


You will learn:
- to edit reality by picking and choosing elements that speak to you.
- strategies to connect elements into a pleasing arrangement.
- awareness of how to add interest where you want to.
Learning outcome:
- 2 sketches combining objects that are not in physical proximity.
- you will be able to name and use design tools you can apply to arrange disparate elements into a coherent sketch.

This is a rare opportunity for immersion in in-depth but light-hearted instruction that will expose you to new ideas, attitudes and skills to take your sketching to the next level.

Skill level: The workshop works well for students at all levels. Some of the tools presented may be easier or harder to apply for individual student, but everyone can choose how much to challenge themselves. The workshop is also largely independent of drawing ability, which makes it exciting for beginners and more seasoned sketchers interested in composition-on-the-fly.
