Bombshell
by Rowan Maness
Hardcover Giveaway
U.S. Only

Simon Pulse
Released 7/4/2017

MTV’s Catfish meets We Were Liars in this compelling story about a teenage girl who isn’t quite what she seems.

In real life, Joss Wyatt is an ordinary teenage girl, with a tight-knit group of friends and a potential boyfriend. But online, she’s an art restorer in Washington, DC, a model jet-setting around Europe, a southern beauty queen trapped in a loveless marriage. Online, she’s anyone she wants to be.

For years, Joss has maintained a varied set of alternative lives, using them to escape the boredom that is her existence in a generic Arizona suburb. But when she starts receiving anonymous messages threatening to reveal her identity to everyone she knows—both in real life and online—Joss’s carefully constructed worlds begin to unravel. Can Joss catch her stalker before all of her worlds collapse?

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Bombshell?

My favorite thing about writing in general is watching characters take on lives of their own. With Bombshell, I started out with rough outlines -- a girl who makes up personalities on the internet, her closest male friend, the people she lies to, her fake personalities themselves -- and ended up with characters I felt extremely connected to. The process was also somewhat cathartic on a personal level. Like the main character, Joss, I spent my teenage years catfishing people, which led to some intense and bizarre situations. I borrowed from my own experiences for the book (I like to refer to Bombshell as an "enhanced semi-autobiography") and as I worked through the reasons behind Joss' urge to lie and hide behind masks, I learned a lot about myself. You always learn about yourself when you write a story, but this felt particularly... pointed. It was like free therapy. At the beginning of the process, I thought I was writing a book about a girl who lies online and gets exposed. By the time I was finished, it was something else entirely. Joss was someone I couldn't have pictured beforehand -- the book is just the beginning of her journey.

Paper Hearts
by Ali Novak

U.S. Only

Sourcebooks Fire
Released 7/4/2017

Felicity has her entire future planned. Ever since her older sister ran away, she's had the full weight of her mother's expectations on her shoulders. So she works hard to get straight As and save for college.

Except sometimes the best things in life are unplanned--like when Felicity meets a handsome, masked stranger while she is volunteering at a charity masquerade ball. She never thought he'd flirt with her. And she certainly never thought he'd turn out to be a member of the world-famous Heartbreakers band, Alec.

Then Felicity uncovers a shocking family secret. Suddenly, she, Alec, and her two best friends are off on a road trip to find Felicity's missing sister. And she's about to discover that unexpected turns have a peculiar way of landing her right where she needs to be...

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Paper Hearts?

There are so many aspects about PAPER HEARTS that I love, but what inspired me to write the book and what kept me captivated with the story was the idea of a spontaneous road trip. I love the adventure of taking off with no concrete plans, because it meant there were so many fun directions I could take the story. I also loved carefree, summertime vibes of cruising up the California coast.

The Disappearances
by Emily Bain Murphy
Hardcover Giveaway
U.S. Only

HMH Books for Young Readers
Released 7/4/2017

What if the ordinary things in life suddenly…disappeared?

Aila Quinn’s mother, Juliet, has always been a mystery: vibrant yet guarded, she keeps her secrets beyond Aila’s reach. When Juliet dies, Aila and her younger brother Miles are sent to live in Sterling, a rural town far from home--and the place where Juliet grew up.

Sterling is a place with mysteries of its own. A place where the experiences that weave life together--scents of flowers and food, reflections from mirrors and lakes, even the ability to dream--vanish every seven years.

No one knows what caused these “Disappearances,” or what will slip away next. But Sterling always suspected that Juliet Quinn was somehow responsible--and Aila must bear the brunt of their blame while she follows the chain of literary clues her mother left behind.

As the next Disappearance nears, Aila begins to unravel the dual mystery of why the Disappearances happen and who her mother truly was. One thing is clear: Sterling isn’t going to hold on to anyone's secrets for long before it starts giving them up.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about The Disappearances?

The thing I love most about THE DISAPPEARANCES is the way it permanently changed the way I see the world. In the story, a small town called Sterling systematically loses an element of life every seven years--scents, dreams, reflections, stars. As I was writing, I was asking myself: what about the world around me would I miss most if those things suddenly vanished? In a way, I think it sort of led me to retrain my eyes to seek out the magical and the beautiful in everyday life.

So that's my second favorite thing, actually. My first is when a reader tells me that the book helped them look at the world in a new way, too--because that's the most incredible compliment I could ever receive.

A haunting novel about a girl who must face the consequences after her actions indirectly lead to her sister’s disappearance.

Enigma
by Tonya Kuper
Paperback
Entangled: Teen
Released 7/3/2017

The highly anticipated sequel to Anomaly will be released the summer of 2017!

Worst. Road Trip. Ever.

Escaping with Reid Wentworth should have been fun, but how can I enjoy it when I just (accidentally) killed someone, my mom and brother are in danger, and the Consortium is trying to enslave humanity? (Yeah, they aren’t fooling around.) So feeling something for Reid Wentworth was not part of the plan. Trying to help unite the Resistance against the Consortium means I can’t be distracted by hot boys.

The Resistance secret hideout isn’t exactly the rebel base of my dreams. A traitor there wants me dead, but we have no idea who it is. And with both the Resistance and the Consortium trying to control me, the only one I can trust is Reid. If we’re going to have any chance of protecting my family, controlling my unstable powers, and surviving the clash between the Oculi factions, I’m going to have to catch this traitor. By using myself as bait.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about Enigma?

My favorite thing about Enigma is that I got to dig MUCH deeper into the main characters of Anomaly, Josie and Reid, and their budding relationship. Of course, I still love the rad quantum physics based abilities and all the scifi action, but the growth of this strong nerd girl makes me super proud.

The Silence
by Mark Alpert
Hardcover
Sourcebooks Fire
Released 7/4/2017

Transformers meets The Terminator in the epic conclusion to this action-packed trilogy.

When Adam acquires a mysterious new power that connects his electronic mind with the complexity of atomic physics, he quickly learns how hard it is to control. Desperate for someone to talk to, Adam strikes up a friendship with the newest Pioneer, Amber. Except Amber's software has been warped, and Adam can't figure out exactly what she's become. But he—and the world—is in danger, unless he can unravel the mystery.

Author Question: What is your favorite thing about The Silence?

THE SILENCE is the final book in a trilogy of Young Adult novels about the first teenagers to make the transition from human to robot. The U.S. Army saves the lives of these terminally ill teens by scanning their brains and recording all the contents of their minds – their memories, thoughts, emotions, everything. Then the Army downloads this information into the circuits of combat-ready robots, and the teens are reborn inside bodies of steel and silicon. Because their minds are now software, they can transfer themselves to any machine with the proper circuitry, including helicopters, tanks, and missiles. In THE SILENCE, the book’s hero – Adam Armstrong – wants to help his human friend Brittany, who was badly injured in the preceding book in the trilogy (the first two books are titled THE SIX and THE SIEGE). So Adam transfers his software to a swarm of nanobots -- microscopic machines that are injected into Brittany’s bloodstream -- and then he guides the swarm to the scarred areas of her brain so he can repair the damage. That’s my favorite part of the book, the description of Adam’s journey through his girlfriend’s blood vessels and heart and brain.
