Beach sketching

Beach sketching has to be one of my favourite things. I did these sketches at Papamoa Beach in the week between Christmas and New Years. 

Situated about three hours drive south of Auckland, the area has changed a lot over the years, especially since house prices have skyrocketed in Auckland over the last decade. It was inevitable that people would twig on to what the apply titled 'Bay of Plenty' has to offer. The areas abundant resources didn't escape Captain James Cook during his first cruise around the country in 1769 bestowing amusingly literal European names on everything.

But despite the increasingly suburban feeling, once you walk over those sand dunes and leave the houses behind, the beach remains as good as pristine as ever.
