Gray Matter Workshop in Austin, Texas

Using Gray to unify two washes of two complementary colors to make for lively and loose paintings - is a mouthful title! What it wants to convey is that most paintings can be painted using a flow method of watercolors, top to bottom, like a wash. Two complementary colors are used to achieve maximum color contrast and harmonized by using gray as a neutral temperature pigment*. The class will emphasize wet in wet painting, loose capture of scene, and abstraction. Come with an attitude to challenge yourself and to practice hard. This is an extended version of workshop Uma taught at Chicago Seminar and at USK Symposium in Portugal. There will be time to brush up technical skills, especially the art of looking as well as time to see many examples of using same technique while painting varied scenes.

When: Sat and Sun, Nov 3 and 4, 2018 

9AM-4PM with time for lunch in between.

Saturday will be a in-studio day at – 8303 N Mopac, UFCU Event Center, Entrance C, Austin, TX 78759.

Sunday will be plein-air day in downtown Austin.
