The day after Pearl Harbor was the day Roosevelt referred to as the “day which will live in infamy”.
"The wall, which Democrats and Never-Trumpers still like to mock (and still work to obstruct), is a singularly important mechanism that will help save thousands of U.S. lives every year by finally locking the open door into this country available to the drug cartels."

Pro-Brexit leader Nigel Farage abruptly quits UKIP
by Ben Marquis
President Donald Trump’s circle of international political support just grew a little bit smaller after a major nationalist figure in British politics stepped down from a leading role.
Nigel Farage, a Trump ally and an on-again, off-again leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), was a driving force behind the 2016 Brexit referendum. But Farage announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the UKIP over its leader’s embrace of the controversial Tommy Robinson and “obsession” with Islam, which Farage fears will ultimately hurt the Brexit cause.
Farage quits UKIP
The U.K. Sun reported that Farage made a big deal out of tearing up his 25-year-old UKIP membership card to display his disgust with the direction the party was headed under the guidance of a new leader, fellow founding member Gerard Batten, who Farage accused of “turning a blind eye to extremist politics.”
At the heart of the issue for Farage is Batten’s embrace of Tommy Robinson, a controversial figure who heads the anti-Islamic migration English Defense League organization and was formerly a member of the British National Party, which had been heavily criticized as “racist” and “extremist.”
Speaking on his LBC radio show, Farage explained, “I don’t recognize the party as that I helped to found all those years ago. I think the brand is tarnished. It cannot capitalize on the opportunities being presented to it. So with a very great reluctance, I have, as of now, cancelled my membership of UKIP.”
Farage noted that he still saw a “huge space” in British politics that could be filled by a pro-Brexit party, but lamented that such a space “won’t be filled by UKIP.”
Farage: Extremism will hurt Brexit cause
As for Batten’s embrace of Robinson — specifically their plans to conduct a public march just days prior to a crucial Brexit vote in the House of Commons — Farage feared the march would be “absolutely calamitous,” predicting chaotic street brawls that UKIP’s pro-EU opponents could use to discredit the Brexit movement for years to come.
“Under my leadership of UKIP, the party banned former members of the BNP and EDL from joining. Many accusations of racism and extremism were thrown at us, but I strongly maintain they were untrue,” said Farage. “Under Gerard Batten’s leadership, however, the party’s direction has changed fundamentally. He seems to be obsessed with the religion of Islam and not just Islamic extremism, and UKIP wasn’t founded to be a party based on fighting a religious crusade.”
“He’s also obsessed with this figure Tommy Robinson who is seen by some to be a great hero standing up and fighting for working class people, but who has a pretty suspect record — and who brings with him a group of people amongst which we see scuffles, violence. Many have criminal records, some pretty serious. All of it’s been dragging UKIP away from being an electoral party to a party of street activism … and turning a blind eye to extremist politics,” he warned.
“I have warned this direction was catastrophic, particularly at the time when the great Brexit betrayal is upon us,” said Farage. He added that while it was bad enough that damage was being done to the reputation of UKIP, he lamented that the damage done to “the Brexit cause is even worse.”
Massachusetts governor seeks removal of judge who helped illegal immigrant avoid deportation
Massachusetts governor seeks removal of judge who helped illegal immigrant avoid deportation
by Ben Marquis
In a Massachusetts district court hearing in April, a judge allegedly aided and allowed a twice-deported illegal immigrant with a criminal record to escape through the rear of the courthouse to avoid an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent waiting out front to detain and process the suspect for a third deportation.
That judge could soon be held accountable for her actions, if Republican Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker gets his way and is able to remove her from the bench — or at least prevent her from presiding over criminal cases while her actions are investigated.
The Boston Globe reported that Baker has requested court officials temporarily sideline Newton District Judge Shelley M. Joseph while a federal grand jury looks into whether Joseph and other court workers played a role in helping a twice-deported illegal immigrant with a record and multiple aliases avoid apprehension by a waiting ICE agent.
“I don’t believe she should be hearing criminal cases until that federal case is resolved,” Baker said. “Look, judges are not supposed to be in the business of obstructing justice.”
Judge allowed criminal illegal immigrant to escape
At a court hearing on April 2, Joseph — who was appointed to the bench by Baker in 2017 — learned that an ICE agent was waiting in front of the courthouse for a defendant going by the name of Jose Medina-Perez.
After Joseph was overheard saying “ICE is going to get him,” the courtroom audio was cut off for about a minute while further conversation in a sidebar meeting ensued. Moments after that, Medina-Perez was escorted downstairs in the courthouse and was released from custody at the back door of the building, where he was witnessed scaling a fence to make his escape.
Medina-Perez had been in court on charges of drug possession and being a fugitive from justice — and he had a warrant out for him from Pennsylvania — but the warrant issue was dropped by prosecutors and the drug charge did not require he be held in custody, so he was released.
Medina-Perez, a man from the Dominican Republic whose real name is Oscar Manuel Pegeuro, was actually arrested again later in April, but released once again on bond by an immigration judge.
Refusal to cooperate with ICE
It is worth noting that numerous communities in Massachusetts, including Newton, have declared themselves to be “sanctuary cities” that either refuse to assist or actively interfere with federal immigration officials. There is an effort underway to further undermine the ability of ICE agents to do their job by prohibiting them from making arrests in or outside of courthouses.
But ICE spokesman John Mohan explained courthouse arrests are often necessary because of the “unwillingness” of local authorities to cooperate with the federal agency, and noted that individuals arrested in that fashion have typically “already taken affirmative measures to avoid detection,” thus requiring that agents wait for them outside a location at which they know they’ll eventually be present.
“ICE Officers take their responsibility for enforcement of this nation’s immigration laws very seriously and are committed to ensuring public safety,” Mohan said.
The Globe noted that it was incredibly rare for judges in the state to be held accountable by the state and are even more rarely removed from the bench, usually at most only being reassigned to administrative or civil duties.
However, what Judge Joseph is alleged to have done — aided an illegal immigrant in evading capture by ICE — is rather egregious, and hopefully, she will prove to be an exception to the rule in that she bears the full responsibility for the travesty of justice she allowed to occur in her own courtroom.
Trump Organization responds to claims it hired illegal immigrants
Written by Foxnews
The Trump Organization hit back at a bombshell report in The New York Times that said President Trump’s elite resorts had numerous illegal aliens as housekeeping, maintenance, and landscaping employees.
“We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices. If any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately,” a spokesperson for the Trump Organization told Fox News via email.
The Times article spotlighted Victorina Morales, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala, who has worked as a housekeeper at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, since 2013.
The Times reported that Morales has “made Trump’s bed, cleaned his toilet and dusted his crystal golf trophies.”
She said Trump would sometimes give her a $50 or $100 tip.
Morales, who reportedly crossed the American border illegally in 1999, said she’s hurt amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
“We are tired of the abuse, the insults, the way he talks about us when he knows that we are here helping him make money,” Morales told The Times. “We sweat it out to attend to his every need and have to put up with his humiliation.”
She said she didn’t have proper documentation, and she used false Social Security and permanent resident cards.
Morales told the news outlet she expects to be reprimanded severely with the report coming out.
“I ask myself, is it possible that this señor thinks we have papers? He knows we don’t speak English,” Morales told The Times. “Why wouldn’t he figure it out?”
Morales told The Times she is applying for asylum and is exploring a lawsuit claiming workplace abuse and discrimination.

Her lawyer, Anibel Romero, has called for federal and state investigations into the matter.
“This toxic environment was designed to intimidate these women, leaving them fearful for their safety and the safety of their families,” he said in a statement.

Laura Bush publicly thanks Melania Trump for reaching out after her father-in-law’s death
by Jerry McCormick
Death has a funny way of bringing unlikely foes together.
In this case, it was a kind gesture by Melania Trump that has apparently started the mending of the fences between the Trumps and the Bush family.
Reaching Out
It is no secret that there has been more than a bit of animosity between the Trump and Bush families.
This all started during the 2016 campaign season when Trump went on an all-out assault against Jeb Bush, former President George W. Bush’s brother and the late Bush 41’s son.
Jeb was considered to be one of the three most likely to give Trump a run for his money in 2016 alongside Sens. Marco Rubio (FL) and Ted Cruz (TX).
The problem, though, was that “Jeb!” had all the Republican elite money behind him, so Trump had to go after him first.
Jeb Bush was not innocent in all of this, as he and his family threw more than a few jabs at Trump.
They gave as good as they got, but former first son came out on the short side of things and was dispatched fairly early in the election process.
When the primary season was over, there was no kissing and making up, though, as usually happens.
The former presidents and presidential candidate refused to endorse the candidate from their own party and refrained from voting for him.
Additionally, since the election, George W. Bush has made several statements criticizing Trump.
But Melania Trump apparently wanted to put that all behind everyone by inviting Laura Bush and her family to come back to the White House to say hello to staff as well as personally see this year’s Christmas display while they were in Washington for George H.W. Bush’s funeral.
Moving Forward
The public thank-you from Laura Bush will go a long way to making some peace between these two families in a dispute has become the modern-day equivalent to the Hatfields and McCoys.
The former first lady even made a post on Instagram with a picture of her family at the White House, stating: “Thanks to Mrs. Trump for inviting our family to the White House to see Christmas decorations and our old friends, the residence staff.”
Some of the pictures taken over the last few days show a much friendlier attitude between all parties, though Jeb was noticeably absent.
Perhaps that fence needs a bit more mending before Jeb is willing to come back into the fold.
More than three dozen Taliban terrorists die in premature car bomb detonation in Afghanistan

More than three dozen Taliban terrorists die in premature car bomb detonation in Afghanistan
by Ben Baird
Even the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry, as they did for 37 Taliban terrorists killed this weekend in the southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.
The religious zealots were killed when a car bomb the group was installing prematurely exploded in the Maroof district sometime late Friday evening, leaving death and destruction in its wake.
Another one bites the dust …
While the details of this humiliating mishap are scarce, Pajhwok Afghan News interviewed officials representing Kandahar Governor Zalmay Wesa and reported that “militants rigged a Humvee vehicle with explosives and wanted to target border police battalion in Atghar district of southern Zabul province.”
Explosives-laden Humvee goes off prematurely among Taliban leaving 37 dead
11:36 PM - Dec 1, 2018
In addition to the 37 militants killed, the Afghan Ministry of Defense is reporting that at least 15 motorcycles were destroyed in the massive explosion. An unspecified number of additional casualties were also sustained in the blast, according to multiple sources.
United News of India confirmed reports that the Taliban planned to target government forces with the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. The failed attack occurred as the security situation in the province has worsened in the past few months.
“Kandahar has been among the relatively calm provinces but the security situation in some of its districts has deteriorated during the recent months,” The Khaama Press News Agency reported.
The Taliban have been a thorn in the side of the central government in Kabul ever since they were ousted in 2001 by a U.S.-led invasion. Pockets of resistance have remained, however, and the hardline Salafist group has regained some momentum in recent years as the coalition presence in the country has gradually been reduced.
Taliban gag reel
While the Taliban’s strength has waxed and waned over time, one thing has remained consistent throughout the 17-year war: the hardline militants have an incredible capacity for accidentally killing themselves in spectacular fashion.
Just last month, in the country’s southeastern Ghazni province, 16 Taliban were killed when an improvised explosive device detonated inside a safe house located near the dangerous Qarabagh district. The initial blast set off a chain reaction as at least 16 other bombs detonated in the ensuing destruction.
The Daily Star reported a similar event in April 2016, when a suicide-vest-wearing group of nine Taliban was killed in spectacular fashion. The terrorist cell was planning a massive attack in Kunduz when the accident occurred.
“But among their numbers was a clumsy jihadi who set off his explosives early by mistake, in turn fatally detonating another terrorist suicide vest, which itself sparked another and another in a calamitous accident,” The Star reported. And there are now fewer terrorists for our soldiers to fight.
Godless Marxist DNC Chair Tom Perez Blasts Christianity as a Tool of the Republicans: ‘People Buy It!’ … and Don’t Listen to Us
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez told a crowd of attendees at a conference Friday that Republicans "don’t give a s--- about people" when discussing healthcare reform.
Speaking at the New Jersey Working Families Alliance at an event that was broadcast on Facebook Live, Perez mentioned the failed Republican attempt to repeal and replace ObamaCare last month.
The chairman slammed President Trump, arguing the president “wants his name on everything” except for the proposed healthcare legislation.
“Well I'll tell you my idea, because you know what embodies their program? ‘I don’t care,’” Perez said, referencing the GOP’s failed measures, adding to applause, "Because they don’t give a s--- about people."
Perez was elected in February to serve as the party’s chairman after a crowded race. His first action as the chairman was to nominate his rival, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), to serve as his deputy.
Ellison ran his campaign on a platform of reform and change for the party, while Perez, who served as former President Barack Obama’s Labor secretary, was dubbed the “establishment” choice in the race.
The Conservative Alternative to the Drudge Report
How Big Pharma is Ripping You Off…Even If You Don’t Pay for Your Own Prescription Drugs
(Chuck Muth) – They say everyone talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Well, the same can be said about the skyrocketing cost of certain brand-name prescription drugs.
Everyone has heard about ginormous price spikes over recent years - most famously Martin “Pharma Bro’” Shkreli’s obscene increase in the cost of Daraprim from $13.50 per pill to a whopping $750 per pill in 2015.
Unfortunately, the knee-jerk reaction to this problem by all too many public officials has been to propose government intervention and price controls. Alas, the better solution – always – is market competition.
But that’s where the problem is.
In order to foster ongoing research in the development of new drugs, the United States issues “patents” that allow drug-makers monopoly control over sales for a set period of time – usually 12 to 20 years. After the monopoly sales period ends, generic competitors are allowed to enter the market.
The first problem is that in order for generic companies to bring to market a less expensive competitive product, the generic version must go through a lengthy approval process through the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to assure the generic version is both safe and effective.
But in order to submit its version for such approval, it’s necessary for the generic company to obtain samples of the brand name drug for development and clinical testing purposes. And by law, the brand name drug is required to provide such samples.
Unfortunately, in order to extend its monopoly hold on a captive market, some brand name drug manufacturers have “gamed the system” by finding ways to deny the generic companies the samples they are entitled to.
And some aren’t even subtle about it. As Pharmalot.com reported in 2015, Jon Haas, director of patient access at Shkreli’s Turing Pharmaceuticals, came right out and admitted it…
“If someone calls and asks for 50 bottles of Daraprim, they would have to come to me for approval. . . . Most likely I would block that purchase. . . . We would like to do our best to avoid generic competition. It’s inevitable. They seem to figure out a way [to make generics], no matter what. But I’m certainly not going to make it easier for them.”
Legislation to end such road-blocking – the CREATES Act – is pending in Congress. But Big Pharma’s big influence on Capitol Hill has thus far successfully choked off the bill from coming to a vote.
The second trick pharmaceutical companies have used to extend their monopoly control and profits for a brand name drug comes from abuse of the U.S. patent system itself.
As a drug reaches the end of its patent life, and thus subject to generic competition, what some pharmaceutical companies have been doing is tweaking the drug with some minor adjustment to extend the patent – and thus their higher prices and higher profits.
For example, they might change the drug from a capsule to a tablet. Or issue a “time release” version. Or change the coating. Or adjust the dosage. Or change it from a twice-a-day pill to once-a-day.
In the industry this is called “product hopping.”
And successful product hopping results in the original patent being extended well beyond the protected lifetime of the drug – which freezes out generic competition and keeps prices artificially high
There’s an easy fix to this – but one state legislators seem to avoid in preference to pushing for government price controls. All states need to do is allow pharmacists to prescribe low-cost “near substitutes” – meaning FDA-approved similar drugs matching the original patent.
But such a common-sense simple fix doesn’t generate near the headlines as price-fixing legislation. So don’t hold your breath.
Anyway, product hopping has proved to be so effective and so profitable that some companies have gone to extreme lengths to take advantage of this loophole in our patent system. Take Humira, for example.
Humira is a drug used to treat severe medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. It’s manufactured by AbbVie and is the best-selling drug in the world which reportedly accounts for some 60 percent of AbbVie’s international sales.
And the amount of money that means is simply staggering.
“Sales of Humira totaled $5.1 billion during the third quarter” this year, reported Ned Pagliarulo for BioPharmaDive.com last week. “Overall company revenues, meanwhile, reached $8.24 billion in the three months from July to September.”
That ain’t chickenfeed.
Now here’s the thing…
The original patent for Humira expired in 2014. However, AbbVie filed 247 new patent applications – that’s right, 247! – in an effort to extend the company’s monopoly control over the drug through the year 2037.
There’s an industry term for this, too. Filing multiple new patents to protect a drug whose original patent is set to expire is called creating a “patent fence” around it.
In Humira’s case, 110 of the 247 follow-up patents in the United States have been approved – thus blocking generic competition.
However, Europe has refused to play this “patent fencing” game. As such, four generic competitors to Humira recently entered the European market - which has already resulted in price drops of anywhere from 10% to 80%.
But let’s say you have a Cadillac health insurance plan in which you pay the same small co-pay regardless of whether you get the expensive brand-name drug or the less-expensive generic version. Why should you care?
Here’s why…
You, as a taxpayer, are also paying for the prescription drugs of fellow Americans who are getting their drugs for “free” under various government-funded health programs – such as Medicare and Medicaid.
And as long as brand-name drugs are allowed to game the patent system to extend their monopoly control over the sale of certain prescription medications, the cost out of your pocket to fund those government programs through higher taxes will continue to go up, up, up.
As those old commercials for Fram oil filters put it, you can pay for it now, or you can pay for it later.
Make no mistake, if these abuses of the patent system aren’t ended, YOU are going to end up paying through the nose one way or another. And that, my friends, is a prescription for financial disaster.

Shore Lore: Pearl Harbor’s aftermath --- Forget Not
By Don Wilding
Like much of the United States, Cape Cod was touched in many ways by the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, which opened the door for our country’s entrance into World War II.
Following the disaster at the Hawaiian base, the military went through a quick overhaul of its high command in the Pacific, reaching out to a Cape Cod regular. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, a summer resident of Wellfleet, was appointed as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and Commander in Chief of Pacific Ocean Areas, commanding Allied air, land, and sea forces.
Nimitz was described by the Dec. 11, 1941 edition of The Provincetown Advocate as being “much admired by those who have come in contact with him” in Wellfleet.
While the promotion of Nimitz, who was the United States’ last surviving officer who served in the rank of fleet admiral, was an eye opener for the locals, others awaited word from the Pacific about their loved ones’ fates.
For many, the news was tragic.
According to the Dec. 11, 1941 edition of The Chatham Monitor, Cape Cod’s first soldier to die in the attack was Pvt. Robert S. (“Scotty”) Brown, 26, of Chatham. Brown served on an Army bomber plane as a bombardier. He was killed at Hickam Field, Pearl Harbor.
Others lost included Lt. Commander Clarance Bowley of Provincetown, who was killed on the U.S. Destroyer Phelps, and Capt. Lewis H. Delano and Howard Delano, both of Orleans, on the U.S.S. Minneapolis.
Mrs. Arthur Cobb of Truro received more positive news. Her son, Major Richard Cobb, sent a telegram to his mother that he was stationed at McClellan Field in Calif. after returning from Pearl Harbor.
“In his message Major Cobb said that his wife and child, who live near Hickam Field, Pearl Harbor, are safe and that the residential district was unharmed by Japanese bombs,” the Advocate reported.
Sales of U.S. Defense Bonds increased at the Hyannis Post Office the week after the attack. Postmaster E. Thomas Murphy said that 38 Defense Bonds, valued at $4,875, were sold. Sales were boosted by posters, featuring Santa Claus and the words, “This year give a share in America,” posted everywhere, including on Page 1 of the Monitor.
Over at Camp Edwards, Jack Johnson was covering the war preparation for the Monitor. He reported that civilians weren’t allowed in the camp “without a definite mission,” and a system had been worked out for meeting an attack on the base, with soldiers being trained how to spread out their trucks to avert damage from a bombing raid.
“The new spirit of the men, the smooth functioning of fighting equipment and thorough discipline from the officers in command gives the civilian observer a definite feeling of confidence,” Johnson wrote. “Devotion and loyalty to country ... are more than mere oratorical words out there today.”
