Laura Bush publicly thanks Melania Trump for reaching out after her father-in-law’s death

Death has a funny way of bringing unlikely foes together.
In this case, it was a kind gesture by Melania Trump that has apparently started the mending of the fences between the Trumps and the Bush family.

Reaching Out

It is no secret that there has been more than a bit of animosity between the Trump and Bush families.
This all started during the 2016 campaign season when Trump went on an all-out assault against Jeb Bush, former President George W. Bush’s brother and the late Bush 41’s son.
Jeb was considered to be one of the three most likely to give Trump a run for his money in 2016 alongside Sens. Marco Rubio (FL) and Ted Cruz (TX).
The problem, though, was that “Jeb!” had all the Republican elite money behind him, so Trump had to go after him first.
Jeb Bush was not innocent in all of this, as he and his family threw more than a few jabs at Trump.
They gave as good as they got, but former first son came out on the short side of things and was dispatched fairly early in the election process.
When the primary season was over, there was no kissing and making up, though, as usually happens.
The former presidents and presidential candidate refused to endorse the candidate from their own party and refrained from voting for him.
Additionally, since the election, George W. Bush has made several statements criticizing Trump.
But Melania Trump apparently wanted to put that all behind everyone by inviting Laura Bush and her family to come back to the White House to say hello to staff as well as personally see this year’s Christmas display while they were in Washington for George H.W. Bush’s funeral.

Moving Forward

The public thank-you from Laura Bush will go a long way to making some peace between these two families in a dispute has become the modern-day equivalent to the Hatfields and McCoys.
The former first lady even made a post on Instagram with a picture of her family at the White House, stating: “Thanks to Mrs. Trump for inviting our family to the White House to see Christmas decorations and our old friends, the residence staff.”
Some of the pictures taken over the last few days show a much friendlier attitude between all parties, though Jeb was noticeably absent.
Perhaps that fence needs a bit more mending before Jeb is willing to come back into the fold.

Middle School Rocket Science

This week, a group of more than 200 middle and high school students got to see what they can achieve when they work hard and dream big in America.

Students at The Weiss School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and students from six public high schools in Irvine, California, gathered around their respective computer monitors Monday to watch their hard work blast off into space aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Along with 62 other commercial and government satellites from 17 countries, the rocket carried WeissSat-1 and IRVINE02 – two small satellites that the student groups had separately conceptualized, designed, built, programmed, and rigorously tested for three years. Both successfully deployed from the rocket’s second stage and are now orbiting our planet. These join a growing number of satellites built by young Americans (the first elementary school-built satellite launched into space in December 2015).

Stop for a moment to consider just how remarkable these achievements really are – and what they mean for the future of our country and humanity.

I remember science projects in middle and high school. They were miniature volcanoes that belched steam from dry ice – or in my case, assortments of fossils that I had meticulously collected and identified. Despite my enthrallment with space – and the many issues of Missiles and Rockets magazine I read as a young person – I never had the technical expertise, resources, or opportunity to actually design and build a satellite that could be put into orbit.

This achievement becomes even more amazing when you learn what these CubeSats will do. The Weiss School satellite is studying how and whether bacteria trapped in ice could potentially transfer to other planetary environments. The IRVINE02 CubeSat will capture images with a wide-field macro lens and beam data back to Earth via an optical laser downlink– which can send information much faster than traditional radio communications.

Not only have these projects pushed these students to learn things they never could have in a traditional classroom setting – their projects will no doubt provide the scientific community with very useful data. This project, which is a part of NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative, is the perfect example of a new way to approach education (so that it incentivizes learning and doing things rather than passing tests) and the way in which we can introduce and develop the people who will lead in the growing space economy.

As the mother of one of the students at The Weiss School told me, “it was a good day for our future.” She also correctly remarked that these are “exactly the kind of students who will be leading President Trump's Space Force someday.”

In addition to these amazing accomplishments by the young rocket scientists of the future, the rocket scientists of today also had a tremendous achievement. SpaceX (working with a company called Spaceflight Industries that bought and organized the launch) broke four records on Monday.

SpaceX broke an American record for the number of satellites carried and deployed into space at one time. Elon Musk’s rocket company also surpassed its previous record for the number of launches in one year. So far in 2018, the company successfully completed the inaugural launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket and completed 18 Falcon 9 missions. Importantly, the company also successfully launched and returned the same booster rocket for a third time – and that booster became the first to fly from Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and Vandenberg Air Force Base.

These records are important. As Vice President Mike Pence told Robert Costa at The Washington Post Space Summit on October 23, there is an “American aspiration that we are in a very real sense, a nation of pioneers. We’ve always, throughout our history been pushing the outer envelope. We’ve been pushing into the undiscovered country. I think the American people are excited to see us do that again.”

Monday was a tremendously important day for the students in Florida and California, the future of the commercial space economy, and our country. These students – and the teachers, scientists, and companies that enabled them to do this remarkable work – deserve tremendous congratulations.

Newt Gigrich

Trump Slams Tillerson After Houston Interview: ‘Dumb as a Rock,’ ‘Lazy as Hell’
BY: Paul Crookston

President Donald Trump on Friday said Rex Tillerson is "dumb as a rock" and "lazy as hell" after the former secretary of state made unflattering comments about Trump.
Tillerson spoke publicly for the first time this week about his experience as Trump’s first head of the State Department, and he described receiving instructions that were not legally possible. That interview with CBS News journalist Bob Schieffer made headlines for his comment that some of Trump’s ideas "violate[d] the law," but Trump fired back Friday afternoon in a tweet praising Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him. His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!" Trump wrote.
Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him. His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!
The former Exxon boss’s words at the MD Anderson Cancer Center fundraiser were reported by the Houston Chronicle and picked up by national outlets. He described conversations where he had to tell Trump he couldn’t carry out certain tasks.
"So often, the president would say here's what I want to do and here's how I want to do it and I would have to say to him, ‘Mr. President I understand what you want to do but you can't do it that way. It violates the law,’" Tillerson said.
He said those conversations frustrated the president, but he did not say Trump demanded that he break the law. Tillerson said he had to explain to Trump how Congress writes and amends the law.
"I'd say, ‘here's what we can do,’" Tillerson said. "We can go back to Congress and get this law changed. And if that's what you want to do, there's nothing wrong with that. I told him I'm ready to go up there and fight the fight, if that's what you want to do."
Tillerson’s tenure did not lead to any major achievements by the State Department, and some said he seemed to be restructuring the department with the goal of "downsizing."

U.S. Becomes Net Oil Exporter for First Time Since Truman Presidency

After three-quarters of a century relying more heavily on foreign oil, the United States became a net oil exporter in 2018, a step toward what President Donald Trump calls "energy independence."
During his campaign, Trump told voters that "Under my presidency, we will accomplish a complete American energy independence. Complete. Complete."
The shift toward exporting more U.S.-refined oil than the country imports reflects increased oil production in areas such as Texas, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania.
Michael Lynch, the president of Strategic Energy and Economic Research, said the United States is becoming dominant in the world of energy.
"We are becoming the dominant energy power in the world," Lynch said. "But, because the change is gradual over time, I don’t think it’s going to cause a huge revolution, but you do have to think that OPEC is going to have to take that into account when they think about cutting."
Last week, the U.S. sold a net 211,000 barrels of crude and refined oil per day. The last time the U.S. was a net oil exporter, President Harry S. Truman was in the White House.
chart
While the U.S. still imports more than 7 million barrels a day of crude from all over the globe, exports are expected to rise further as new pipelines and terminals are created.
U.S. crude exports are poised to rise even further, with new pipelines from the Permian in the works and at least nine terminals planned that will be capable of loading supertankers. The only facility currently able to load the largest ships, the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, is on pace to load more oil in December than it has in any other month.
The massive Permian may be even bigger than previously thought. The Delaware Basin, the less drilled part of the field, holds more than twice the amount of crude as its sister, the Midland Basin, the U.S. Geological Service said Thursday.

James Comey Declines to Answer ‘Many’ Questions During Hill Testimony

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 07: Former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey arrives at the Rayburn House Office Building before testifying to the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees on Capitol Hill December 07, 2018 in Washington, DC. Former FBI Director James Comey refused to answer several questions during his closed-door interview with House investigators on Friday, according to a report.

Fox News, citing several lawmakers, reports that Comey’s lawyers “instructed” their client not to respond to questions regarding the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified information, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants, and the Steele dossier.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), who stepped outside to talk to reporters during the hearing, expressed dissatisfaction with Comey’s apparent inability to responded to various questions. “One of the disappointments of this deposition so far has been the amount of times in which the FBI believes that Congress doesn’t have a right to know,” Issa said begrudgery.
The California Republican revealed Comey’s lawyers, one of which works for the Department of Justice, asked him not to provide answers to “a great many questions that are clearly items at the core of our investigation” — a directive the fired FBI Director abided by in a “gleeful” fashion, Issa told Fox News. “The Department of Justice is going to have to agree to allow him to come back and answer a great many questions that currently he is not answering,” said Issa.
Comey, whose interview is scheduled to conclude at 4:15 p.m. local time, may issue a statement shortly after his testimony.
House Judiciary Committee members told Fox News that they will spend a great deal of time questioning Comey about his decision to “draft the 2016 statement recommending against filing criminal charges in the Clinton email probe before the former secretary of state was even interviewed.”
Friday’s hearing is likely the final opportunity Republican lawmakers will have to question Comey as part of their probe into the decision-making process of the FBI and Justice Department during the 2016 presidential election. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, vowed Friday to end the probe, claiming it is a “waste of time” because its aim is to divert attention from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe. “The entire purpose of this investigation is to be a diversion of the real investigation, which is Mueller. There is no evidence of bias at the FBI and this other nonsense they are talking about,” Nadler told reporters outside Comey’s testimony.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) announced a joint investigation into decisions made by the FBI and Justice Department in 2016. Both committees have sought answers to why FBI official chose to publicly announce their investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information and why the former Secretary of State was ultimately exonerated.

President Trump Will Name Pro-Life Bill Barr Attorney General, He Strongly Opposes Roe v. Wade
NATIONAL   MICAIAH BILGER

President Donald Trump nominated conservative lawyer William Barr to the position of attorney general Friday.
Trump praised him as “one of the most respected jurists in the country,” and said Barr was his “first choice from Day One,” according to the Daily Beast. Barr, who also served under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, would succeed former AG Jeff Sessions.
His confirmation seems likely in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate, though Democrats almost certainly will attack Barr’s opposition to Roe v. Wade.
Fox News reports Barr said he did not agree with the infamous abortion case during his Senate confirmation hearing in 1991.
He said he thought Roe was wrongly decided, and abortion laws should be left up to the states, the LA Times reported at the time. Barr also said he does not think the right to privacy “extends to abortion.”
The Daily Beast described Barr as “a conservative Republican known for a Reagan-esque tone and worldview.”

Pro-life conservative leader Gary Bauer agreed. The two have known each other since Barr worked for Reagan.
“He’s known for having a very dry sense of humor and unless you realize that, you might do a double take until you realize he’s joking with you,” Bauer said. “He’s a really good, nice guy the kind of guy that most people would enjoy spending time around.”
Pro-life U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, also expressed hope about Barr.
“I think he’d be an outstanding choice and is highly capable and highly respected, and should be easily confirmable,” Graham said. “However, I know the president has many good choices and I will do everything I can to support his nominee if I’m chairman of the Judiciary Committee. And the sooner we can start the process, the better.”
ABA Journal reports Barr grew up in New York City and worked for the CIA while attending law school at night. Barr worked for Verizon after he left the Bush administration. He currently works at the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He has a wife and three daughters, and is an avid musician who plays the bagpipes.

Mark Meadows: Clinton Foundation Whistleblowers Have Come Forward With Hundreds of Pages of Evidence of Wrongdoing
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA - DECEMBER 05: A homelss street child prays at an Orthodox church December 5, 2006 in Bucharest, Romania. Romania, a country of over 21 million people that is set to join the European Union on the first of the year, still struggles with widespread poverty. Approximately 25% of …Spencer Platt

Europe is renowned for the abandonment of its Christian heritage but within the continent there is a wide diversity of religious practice, the Pew Research Center revealed Wednesday.

In its new report, Pew said that Romania tops the list as the most religious nation in Europe, based on a series of four factors: the importance people ascribe to religion in their lives, regular religious practice, prayer life, and certainty of belief.
A certain geographic pattern emerges, Pew discovered, with Central and Eastern Europeans generally more likely than Western Europeans to rank highly in each of the four measures of religiosity.
In Romania, for instance, 64 percent of the population say they believe in God with absolute certainty, while 50 percent say religion is very important in their lives, 50 percent attend services at least monthly, and 44 percent say they pray daily. Based on these figures, Pew said that 55 percent of Romanians could be considered “highly religious.”
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Estonia, the most northerly of the three Baltic states, garnered the lowest ranking, with only 7 percent of the nation being “highly religious.” In this country, only 6 percent of the population say that religion is very important in their lives, 9 percent say they pray daily, 10 percent attend services at least monthly, and 13 percent say they believe in God with absolute certainty.
Following Romania, some of the most religious nations in Europe are Armenia, Georgia, Greece, and Moldova. Poland also made the top ten, as did Portugal.
According to these standards, Italy is only half as religious as Romania, with 27 percent of its population qualifying as “highly religious.” The Germans and the French, on the other hand, are less than half as religious as the Italians, with only 12 percent of both countries described as highly religious.
The UK, famous for its irreligiosity, barely beat out Belgium and Sweden in the ranking, with 11 percent of its population being highly religious, as opposed to just 10 percent for Belgium and Sweden.
Pew also ranked the European nations based on a single indicator of religiosity taken in isolation. Thus, as far as regular religious practice is concerned, Poland tops the list, with a significant majority of the population (61 percent) attending religious services at least monthly. The second place in this category goes to Romania, but at 50 percent it is significantly lower.
Where simple belief in God is the sole category, Armenia wins the prize as the most religious nation, with more than three quarters (79 percent) of the population saying they believe in God with absolute certainty.
Within Europe, Pew noted in its report, there are sometimes “sizable differences” in degree of religious commitment, while hastening to note that the figures its offers are subject to a certain margin of error.

Tesla could buy GM's shuttered plants, Elon Musk says
By Thomas Barrabi
Elon Musk admits Tesla was weeks from dying earlier in the yearFBN's Lauren Simonetti on Tesla CEO Elon Musk's comments on the company's low points this year.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the electric-car marker will consider buying one of the factories General Motors will shut down as part of its divisive restructuring plan.
GM disclosed last month that it would shutter several assembly plants in North America by 2019 and end production of six car models in a bid to cut costs and better position the company to focus on electric and autonomous vehicles. The move, which is expected to result in roughly 15,000 layoffs, drew sharp criticism from President Trump and lawmakers in states affected by the layoffs.
With Tesla in the midst of ramping up production of its flagship Model 3 sedan, Musk told CBS “60 Minutes” that his firm would consider acquiring one of GM’s facilities.
“It’s possible that we would be interested, if they were going to sell a plant or not use it, that we would take it over,” Musk said during an appearance on CBS “60 Minutes.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that Tesla has purchased another car company’s shuttered factory. Musk’s firm previously bought a plant jointly owned by General Motors and Toyota for $42 million in 2010, electric-car blog Electrek reported. The plant is now one of Tesla’s main production facilities.
GM CEO Mary Barra said the restructuring plan will save the venerable automaker $4.5 billion by 2020. Facing criticism on Capitol Hill, Barra said GM would keep an “open mind” about the future of an Ohio-based plant, Reuters reported.
Musk added that he welcomes competition from GM and other companies investing in electric-car technology.
“The whole point of Tesla is to accelerate the advent of electric vehicles…sustainable transport and trying to help the environment,” Musk said. “It’s the most serious problem that humanity faces.”

After Being Snubbed by Nashville, Kid Rock Lands New Gig for Christmas Parade

For anyone who’s listened to him speak or heard his music, it should come as little surprise that Kid Rock has no problem saying what’s on his mind.
That was never more apparent than when he vulgarly attacked “The View” co-host Joy Behar during a segment on Fox News.
Warning: The video and tweet below contain explicit language.
Embedded video

Kid Rock live on Fox & Friends: 'Screw that Joy Behar bitch'

“We can disagree and still be cordial with one another,” Rock said in the late November appearance. “And just talk about things without going for each other’s throats and protesting everything, and God forbid you say something a little bit wrong and you’re racist, homophobic, Islamophobic … this, that and the other.”
He then turned his ire to Behar, a frequent critic of both Kid Rock and virtually all things President Donald Trump-related.
“People need to calm down, get a little less politically correct, and I would say, ya know, love everybody … except, actually, screw that Joy Behar b—-,” he said.
To be fair, while Rock’s greater point about people needing to be “less politically correct” is spot on, his choice of words leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, Behar deserves to be criticized, but Rock did a disservice to his message with the language he used.
Behar is awful, but he crossed the line when he threw out the B-word.
Given that, it wasn’t shocking news that Kid Rock was promptly removedfrom performing at the Nashville Christmas parade and replaced as the grand marshal.
Well, it didn’t take long for him to find another gig.
As the Tennessean reported Friday, Kid Rock will be a special guest at the Leiper’s Fork Christmas Parade in Williamson County.
To the credit of the director of the parade, Laura Musgrave, she made it abundantly clear that this is a Christmas parade and politics should have nothing to do with it.
“He has some friends out here, and we’re wild and wacky, eclectic and fun,” Musgrave told the Tennessean. “This parade has never been about politics — it’s a Christmas parade.”
Aside from participating in the parade itself, specific details about what Rock will be doing have not been discussed. He will not be the grand marshal of this particular parade either, as that role has already been accepted by John Schneider of “Dukes of Hazzard” fame.
Actions have consequences, and Kid Rock, for his part, seems totally fine with the Nashville Christmas parade removing him. Rock apologized for his language but not his general sentiments toward Behar. Given her unhinged leftist nature, that is completely OK with me.
“Behar has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and when Myself, Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent visited The White House last year, Behar called it ‘the saddest day in the history of the White House since the British burned it to the ground in 1814,'” Rock said in a statement to WTVF-TV.
“Today I said ‘Screw that Joy Behar b—-,'” the statement continued. “Mess with the bull, you get the horns. End of story.
“I apologized for cursing on live tv, I will not for my sentiment nor do I expect an apology from her or anyone else who has choice words for me or doesn’t like me. God Bless America.”

G’ day…Ciao…
